Heat was my first thought too when I saw the start time. Except for the elites, it will definitely make average runners think twice. I realize the festival doesn't open until 11:30, and they don't want too many people standing around, but I hope Summerfest officials reconsider the safety aspects of it and come up with a happy medium.
I'd love to come home to my old stomping grounds for a race, but 10am in July? Doesn't anyone remember what happened at the Chicago Marathon in 2007? That was in October...and that start time was 8am. I hope the race committee will consider a 6am start like most races across the country. The heat, humidity and running do not mix, no matter how elite you are.
I agree 1015 in July is too late, It should be an 8:00 start or even 0730.. I did a half marathon in Aug and it started at 0700 and it was extremely hot by 0800 ..I think they should reconsider the time. However, I am very excited about running this half marathon:) should be a good time!!
I agree with fire island - course should be certified and where's the medallion?

It was announced a few weeks ago that the start time is going to be moved up, I believe to 8:00 due to the outpour of worries over heat. I'm definitely going to sign up now, I will get over my fear of heights!
Can't wait to run one close to home! Heat just makes it interesting!!! See you all there. Have a beer ready for me at the finish! (a 64 calorie beer of course). Would like to add a medal to my collection. Happy to be going to the fest afterwards though.
