I think I tore my hamstring following my wife around the SD RNR marathon course on a bike that had the seat set too high for me. Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.... It's still bothering me 3 weeks later. tight, and hurts on and off when I've been sitting for a while. any tricks to get it to heal faster? I'm supposed to run a half marathon in a month and worried that it's not going to be better in time.
Have you tried any stretching routines yet or do you think its torn and needs serious rehab? There are strengthening exercises you can try as well but for now, its most important to get a better idea of what it feels like. Can you explain your symptoms in greater detail for us please? - I hope you bounce back for the half.
are you icing and take anti-inflammatories? I'd recommend that. Maybe you ought to take some walks to warm it up a bit and stretch it. I pulled my hammy not long ago and found that after a few days, my best bet was to jump back into mild exercise to get it to loosen up. But that'll depend on how severe the damage is - I definitely had not torn mine.
thanks for the responses guys, I've gotten some massage and acupuncture done on it, and have had some great results. still tight when I get up from sitting for a long time. I'm told that it can take up to 6 months to fully heal. in the mean time i'm I continue to run and ride, although at lower intensity.
Good luck Dave! You may want to consider the pool - whether it be swimming or aqua running, the resistance of the water and weightlessness has been known to work miracles. Either way, just keep listening to your body and you'll be back in top shape in no time.
