Running after recovery time, and then illness

I ran my first half marathon on December 5th. I took a week off, and then started to do some short run days during the week. Right after that first running week, I ended up contracting bronchitis. This kept me in bed for another week. I am starting to feel almost 100%, and would like to do a long run this weekend.
My question is given my situation, what is the longest mileage run I should take on? I don't wanna go out there and kill myself, but then again I don't wanna short change my run.
Thanks!!
Completed:
Komen Dallas 5K - 29:38
Dallas Turkey Trot ( 8 mi ) - 1:35:37
White Rock Half Marathon - 2:47:12
Rock'n'Roll Dallas Half Marathon - 2:40:24
Based on the fact that you ran a 1/2 earlier this month, the lack of injury and no mention of continuing problems from the bronchitis, I think that you can do the long run as planned. Question -- was the 1/2 easy, hard or just right? If you struggled, then I wouldn't go more than 8 miles this weekend. Regardless, ease off on your pace, and take a cell phone just in case.

Coming off the bronchitis I would not push it until you are 100%.
If your first few runs after the half went well an easy long run should be ok. keep the pace slow and just enjoy the distance.

Well my attempt at a long run did not go as planned. We had a lot of wind on Friday, and it was about 50 degrees. My lungs felt raw and like they were on fire. I only got a mile out, before I turned back. I was coughing and hacking most of the time. Ugh! I'll give it another go again with a short run tomorrow or Tuesday. Then maybe by Saturday I can get a longer run in.
Frustrated that I am down like this.

I know it's tough but listen to your body, it's saying that it is not ready & healed yet.

I agree -- listen to your body. Try cross-training indoors instead to avoid losing fitness.

My general rule for myself is that if I miss a week's long run, I won't increase it the next week. If I miss two weeks, I'll decrease it by 2-3 miles to be safe.
In your case, and I know the time has come and gone, but it would be wise to run about 6-8 miles the next time you do your long run. This is only if you comfortably completed your half (note: this doesn't mean the race was easy - just the distance was very manageable).
Good luck! And don't forget to back off if you need to. Patience pays in running.
