The first thing I did was put that 13.1 sticker on my car!   So fun!  Ok, I signed up for the R&R Half in San Antonio......I got the fever!   If you do 2 R&R's in the same year you get another Medal with "bling"...who doesn't love bling? LOL!

Oh wow!! Pretty sure I'm doing the SA RnR too!!! I heard it is much bigger by far than the one I just did in Dallas. Last year they had 22,000 runners and someone said the streets were lined with 200,000 people! If that don't get you pumped then you must need a heart transplant!!! LOL Dallas had 16 corrals while San Antonio had 38 corrals!!!

outstanding!  thanks for sharing your story!

had a good 3.5-mile run yesterday, although i was hoping to do more--  just totally ran out of time.  monday, i had a tough yoga day w/a great arm workout that made me pretty sore!  i'm hoping to get in 4-5 miles tomorrow and 8 miles on saturday.

the weather is really getting beautiful here, although a little warm, but i can't complain!  i'm hoping to get back into my speedwork next week.  i think skipping this week may set me back.  oh, well, i'll just have to get back on track!

I see you are doing the Radiant Sprint for Cancer 10k!! I'm doing the same race here in Dallas on 04/16!! With all the races you have run, I have no doubt you can do a Half, you should of seen all of the different type runners in the race, some with disabilities and other ailments!! Made me so thankful I have a healthy body to be able to run and at the same time told me anyone with the will and determination can do it!! Hoorah!!

You know, It's funny that you say that about observing all the different types of people at your last race, because that's how I got into running. The big race in Atlanta is the Peachtree Road Race. It's a challenging 10K course (heat, hills, humidity) that attracts 55,000 runners/walkers/crazypeople every year. I used to watch it on television all the time and one year a friend and I decided to go down and cheer the runners on. When we saw all the different types of people participating in the race--from extremely young to elderly, fit to disabled and/or overweight. My friend and I looked at each other and said, "We can run this race!" That was in '04. The first time I registered was the following year and this year, I'll be running it for the 5th time. So, I guess in my mind, I've been building up the half in the same way I built up the Peachtree, thinking only fit people could do it. Though I am fit, it's not a requirement to do a half. Thanks for your post. Really brought it home for me. I'll let you know when I register for my first half. :-)

Found a 13.1 sticker at my local running store the other day, a week from Sunday and I can put it on my car.

Well into week 12.  Ran the two 5 mile runs and a 5K so far this week.  I also started swimming 3 days a week and biking on the crosstraining day so my body is ready for a rest.  Sunday will be a light 6-8 mile run and then I will taper down the rest of the week getting ready for the half.  We will be flying out to Denver the Friday night before so I won't get any time to really adjust to the altitude.  I have been out there many times so I hope it won't be to big of a deal.

I read somewhere where someone was thinking about doing a Half and actually bought the sticker to put on their fridge as motivation and the plan was to stick it on their car as soon as they accomplished the feat!!

    Hi All,

    Jamam congratulations!!!

Virginia I actually ran 3 miles yesturday and although I was sore afterwards, after I iced and stretched I was fine. I have found you really have to rest with this thing. today I am a little sore but ice is my new best friend. I thought I was taking it real slow but when I got home I found I was just under a 10 min pace. I just stayed really conscious and was prepared to walk if I needed to. I hope to do 4.5 tomorrow or Saturday depending on how I feel. Being able to get back out there really helped my attitude.

I am really glad my 1/2 isn't until fall.

    Peace, Caroline

    Caroline,

Now I know what it feels like to have an injury.  I tweeked/pulled my right hamstring on a lunch run last Tuesday.  I need to ice/heat/and rest it for about a week to see if I can run next week.

Lucky enough I work for a hospital and one of my running buddies is a sports medicine doc so I'll ask him.

    Hey Roy,

Sorry to hear about your injury. I have IT band issues that effects the hip, the foam roller and ice are working great.

    take care.

    Peace, Caroline
