JT, that's so true.  I'm not looking forward to the summer heat.  I did a 10 mile bike ride this a.m.  Starting temp. was 47 degrees. I'm holding on to the cool days as long as I can.  I'm hoping for another cool one tomorrow.  I have a 16 miler on tap.

    Have a great day.

Do speed shoes really help?  Is is all in your head or does new equipment motivate you to run faster?

I have no idea, I just know I was faster with the new speed shoes.  Brooks Green Silence.

I'm surprised that I wasn't even sore the next day.  When I ran the 12K averaging 7:11/mile I couldn't walk for 2 days.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

I was able to get out to run with a local club this morning.  It's always fun to run withother folks, and an unusual treat for me.  I got to Valley Forge park just a minute late and they'd all taken off as I was crossing the parking lot.  I turned onto the trail and began a long chase.  It took me about 5 miles but I finally caught the front runner and had a nice run back to the starting point with her.  So, we did 7 miles in just exactly 60 minutes in lovely sunshine along the Schuylkill River Trail.  It was a delight.  I'll point out that it's clearly not that I'm fast, it's more that this running club, Fastracks, I think, is welcoming to folks of all speeds and abilities.  Clearly - they don't mind the likes of me.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Pretty good! I'm adding a half mile to my long runs each week. This morning was the first time I ever ran 7.5 miles straight. I felt some fatigue at 6 miles, but nothing much. Tried nibbling on a PowerBar each mile - found they're good, but dry. An eighth of the bar every mile seemed too much. Also tried coconut water, but it didn't seem better than plain water. I enjoy reading all your reports - you all are awesome!

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Not that great. Only ran a quick 2 miler. My tummy has been bothering me for the past couple of days, and it didn't help one bit. Also, I bought a running skirt and tried it out for the first time today. Felt great to feel some sun and air on my legs, but the friction wasn't very comfortable. And like an idiot, I wore my under armour cold gear pull over. It's only 57 degrees outside and sunny but I was a bit uncomfortable.

The Shamrock 5k is tomorrow so I wanted to try out the wardrobe combination. Now I'm more confused than ever! Not feeling very confident.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Hi Lucie. Thanks for asking. I had a great day. Temps were in the low 40's, (Oxford, AL), with clear skies, no wind. We had about 240 runners and I set at PR of 23:25 and placed third in the 50-54. This race usually draws about 60 runners but it is on the running clubs Grand Prix circuit this year, thus the large number. They ran low on post race refresh, but surprisingly they handled the large turnout fairly well. Plan to do 3 easy tomorrow. Life is great! Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

I had a 16 mile LSD this a.m.  It was one of the most miserable runs I've ever had.  I wore a pair of Brooks Glycerins that only have about 200 miles on them.  I usually wear them during the week on my shorter runs (under 9 miles).  They've always been a bit uncomfortable, but never painful.  I decided to see how they felt on longer runs as I'm getting ready for a 1/2 marathon in a few weeks.  They killed my feet, knees, and hips.  I had to stop 4 times to loosen, tighten or readjust these crazy shoes on my feet.  I was near tears when I finished b/c of the pain.  I've run 20 miles w/o stopping in my New Balance 833s w/no problems.  I threw the Brooks in the trash as soon as I got home.  I know which shoe I'll NEVER buy again.  I'm not even going to wear them on my short runs anymore just in case they want to torture me again.

I heard and read the Brooks Glycerins were really good shoes before I bought them.  Well, maybe for someone else, but not for me.  I'm a smaller runner and have good running form.  But, these shoes just weren't designed for my feet.

I've been laying around all day trying to recover from the pain.  Oh well, there's always next weekend's LSD (in my New Balance 833s no less).

I hope everyone's run went much better than mine today.

Had a nice 10 mile run (9.9 miles)  yesterday in down pouring rain.  It's only been raining in Seattle for 2 weeks straight aaaahhhhh.

That second hill is a killer.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Thank you for the vote of confidence Lucy!

I ran in the Shamrock 5k today with about 4,600 other runners. It was the largest race that I ever participated in. It was my first chipped race and my time was 00:29:12, a PR and one of my running goals in 2011! I ran the entire thing, took it easy on the hills, and kept a steady pace. I started to lose it toward the last quarter mile (I really don't know why).  I did a lot better than I thought I would do.

Also, it was an official USAT&F course so the running club mentioned that iPods and the like were not allowed. I obliged and didn't wear mine. I think I ran better without it. Sometimes, I tend to listen to a song and say "ok...that was about 3 minutes... how fast do I run in 3 minutes?  How far have I gone so far?" But without the music, I just enjoyed the run and paid attention to everything going on around me.
