Re: My last run was...how was yours?

So I "lied" when I said wed or thurs I would do my 10mi I AM SICK uugghh....normally I will run even if feeling under the weather...i remember one time last year I was congested and had a temp of 101 and said I was going to run just 3 mi to keep my days on track and I ended up running 9mi that day and felt great and by the time I was done my sinuses were clear (snot rockets along the way emabrassed to admit) and fever was gone felt EXCELLENT...thought about sweatinging it out again but the cough and burning in my chest with just walking briskly is not fun and though it may mean I will not hit my goal next week at the 1/2 I will at least be feeling good enough to run it by allowing myself to rest the last few days, hoping tomorrow AM to get a short run in and then next week leading up to the race just 5mi MWF.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Surfcam, I'd gladly take that win!  My new race strategy is to enter the weakest age category I can find!

I can't imagine dealing with 90 degree weather already.  I think the reason we have so many runners around here is the climate--our average high temp in July is 68 degrees.

I thought I'd wimp out on my run tonight--it was pouring rain, and my son has a big project he needed help with.  My running buddy called in desperate need of a quick run, so we did a quick 30 minute run with a couple good hills--enough to feel the burn and work out some of the stress of the week.  We're running a 5K in Portland on Sunday--my second race ever.

I may not be good, but I'm slow!

Last run was the Jonquil City Jog (Smyrna, GA), 5k. I ran it in 31:10. I'm so ready to get back to where I'm completing my 5k's in under 30 mins. I have to be more consistent with my running.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Great post...as I sit here on Friday evening listening to Led Zeppelin's Fool in the Rain and reading the post. Great song with a running theme at the end.

My last run was yesterday about 1/10th of a mile down the street after an hour long bike ride. I'm trying to recover a sour knee that decided to start hurting in mid March on a 10 mile casual barefoot (Vibram Five Fingers) run around the neighborhood. Problem wasn't the barefoot running as I've ran barefoot many times before but probably can't rule out that I had just overdone it. In early March I did 44 miles of a 50 mile trail run before severe weather forced the organizer to cancel the event:(.  My first time knee injury but seems to be on the mend.

I had never tried trail running before and ran most of the distance with wet, mud-filled shoes. Prior to that my entire training effort was on pavement and sidewalks (some of which could be classed as a trail). Enjoyed the trail run though and plan to do that distance or longer again, trail or pavement.

    Cheers

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Cheers ORcoastrunner!!! I was happy to win it. Almost got first overall because most of the 10k runners turned too early and were DQ'ed. Not very organized race. Oh well, I'll have to keep it on the books though.

Yes, the hot weather is a bit of a bummer, but we get used to it. To a degree. Just have to alter schedules to run before the sun is up! It is still a bit cool today, which will be nice for a fun run, swim-run-swim race I'm in this morning.

Good luck on your 5k tomorrow! Keep it up!

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Ran a race called the Sylvan Shuffle 5k this morning. My goal was 27:00 or 27:30, depending on the day someone would ask me, but I finished at 27:47. Didn't hit my goal but it was good enough to barely set a PR as an adult and to get me my first running award - 3rd place in the 30-39 age group. Admittedly, this time would not normally win anything, but I'll take it. There were lots of 20 somethings and lots of 40 somethings, but apparently there wasn't much competition in the 30s. So, here is my first award of (hopefully) many to come as I keep up my running career:

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Good run this morning! I ran 12 miles (a new PR!). Only 2 things bothered me: My feet really hurt, and my pace was way off! On my long runs, I'm not running against the clock, and I try to conserve energy so I can finish, but my 9 mile pace was over a minute per mile faster than today's run. I have no idea why I was so slow today. As to the feet, I imagine as I gain strength in the feet, I'll have less pain.

Hi Everyone! Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there :-)   And congrats to everyone on your racing achievements!  I did my first run yesterday since my marathon on May 1st.  Easy 4.5 miles with 2 of my running partners. Even though I felt a little drained, it still felt great to get moving again.  Looking forward to getting on a more regular schedule again.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Rick, my Sunday morning run was the most painful, arduous excercize I've had in a long, long time.  I have no idea why, but every step seemed to bring me more discomfort.  Last Thursday's 4 miles were all sweet and my feet handled the pavement as usual, that is to say, just fine.  This morning was some combination of colder and wetter, and just hurt. I didn't even have to look at my watch to know that it was pretty damn slow, too.

Still, when I finished and was cooling down in my driveway, I was glad I'd gone out and done it.  A bad run is usually better than staying in bed...at least when one's alone.

kristi, ouch! Glad to see you were able to get in a short run.  NRDgirl, I agree--sometimes it's nice to leave the music behind.  I went running +5 mile today w/ my running partners--in a thunderstorm. Not smart! But kinda fun :-)

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

My last run was ROUGH! I struggled to finish 4.5 miles. I felt like I was dragging 50 lbs behind me.

Granted, I took in one too many handfuls of trail mix before running and I don't think I drank enough water. So on top of just feeling slow, I developed some tummy cramps that spread to my chest and shoulders. I had to take a walk break around mile 2 before finishing up my run. My head was in the run, but my clothing and my nathan running belt were not working with me today either. I'm happy I got in the miles, but I'm not satisfied with my performance.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

I am with Dreamstate! ROUGH!  I wanted to build on yesterday's small success, and did end up getting in the 3 miles I hoped for but lots of walk breaks today.  Heat up to 88 degrees with 70% humidity.  All this long Minnesota winter I dreamed of warm spring runs.  This was something else, felt like a sponge that needed to be wrung out when I was done.

The beauty of running is there is always tomorrow!
