My last run was...how was yours?

Thanks Len - you're right, of course.  Sure makes me miss the spring weather though!  I'm wondering if I slow down and run/walk if I'll still be able to train enough to run the half in September... but cutting myself some slack in the heat is better than quitting.

You'll be fine.  Because putting in the time/miles in the heat will make you a better runner in the cooler weather.  You won't be going as fast in the hot weather but you'll be putting in the effort needed, since running in heat is harder.

Thanks Len... that's a good point about putting in the necessary effort.  I always am telling myself that when I run with the kids in the double jogger, that it's ok if my pace is slower, because it actually just takes less effort to get a workout when you're pushing the kids also.  Hopefully this will teach me to run through discomfort, which is a valuable lesson prior to racing a new distance for the first time.

My last run was in Kauai, running on th beach with a shelter do we took on a field trip. That will be hard to beat.  Today will be on the treadmill since its already 100 degrees in Phoenix.

Got up at 5 a.m. to run 9 miles for the first time ever - struggling with walking breaks on my long runs, but my goal is completion and I completed!  Wrote a blog post with some photos, a weak point where I actually quote Stephanie Myers, a moment where I swore I was seeing things, and a bit about a police officer: http://iamrunningthis.blogspot.com/2013/07/my-5-am-9-mile-run.html

My last run was hot and humid.  90 degrees at 7am.  Actually looking forward to running on the treadmill today.  Can't wait for some cooler weather in AZ!

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

First contribution to the boards...started running on a regular basis last October and took about a month break in Feb because of snow cover.  No running program, just got out there and ran.  49YO male, was a bit overweight when I started but have lost about 20 pounds.

Last run was yesterday morning, temps in low 50s and cloudy, usual distance of about 4.25 miles.  Really pushed it and got my time just under 36:00.  Want to run a 10K in a few weeks and I should break 1:00:00 but I'm really shooting for 55:00.  Do wish I could run faster, compared to how I was at the start I've made progress but I've definintely plateaued.

This will my first posting to this board in a very very long time. So I 've done the C25K a few times and am starting again. I am looking forward to this since my last run was...oh....a while ago. Anyway, what's the census on runners mixing yoga (like Bikram Yoga) with running? And would 2 or 3 days a week be enough or too much to do this yoga? Thank you

My wife is something of a Yogini and a runner, and while she doesn't see the correlation, IMHO, she seems to be hurt (which negatively impacts her running) more often than not when she steps up her yoga.  I know my comment is a bit counter-intuitive, however, I beleive it is because she is so competitive that she pushes too far in her poses, and this in turn causes "pulls" and "strains".

The above isn't to say I don't think running and yoga can compliment each, it is just to say, take the yoga easy and you should be okay; push too hard (and this goes for running as well), and you might get hurt.

Thanks Shipo. I'm far from competitive but I just thought maybe a class or 2 a week may help with stretching and such. I am most definately not looking to turn myself into a pretzel lol.

I know a number of runners who also do yoga and tell me it is beneficial and good as cross-training.  A couple times a week should be OK.

Track repeats for the first time (I know, I know, it's crazy that I haven't been doing them!).  Very fun.  Looking forward to my next run which is a 10-12 mile long run!

My last run was...how was yours?

October saw a seasonal break and a few weeks, two, of crosstraining, then a couple more of picking the running and building the base back up with crosstraining.

My last run was good, a 40 minute progression with 15 minute warm up & 20 minute cool down. Nice. The last few have been really good easy runs avg. 75% effort. Easy. Loving that fall weather. Everything isn't such a slog.
