Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Got the flu on Wednesday, fever broke and felt a little better yesterday, and it is supposed to rain all weekend here, so I figured nothing lost.  Woke up at 5:30 this morning, and no rain yet. It was 55 degrees, very low clouds and no wind, it was very quiet and still.  It really made me want to run, but I still felt like crap, but figured I might try an easy 3 miles.  What a struggle, everything felt fine, but my breathing of course.  It felt like I was breathing in flames through my nose and my sinuses were going to explode . Anyway's, I was just glad that I got to run, hopefully it will speed up my recovery and I can get back to my routine.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

My last run was....COLD!!!! I ran my first 13 miler today. It was 10F at the start and 14F at the finish. There was a strong east wind that kept the windchills near zero. I planned my route so only 3 miles were into the wind.

I didn't check my times at all through the entire distance and I came within 1 minute of my previous run pace on the treadmill so I was pleased.

I'm tired but not destroyed so I will declare this training run a huge success.

Windy!  I got out to run with the local groups at Valley Forge Park, which is a treat for me, as I usually run solo.  Temp was over 40 to start but the winds were steady at 25 to 30.  Gusts to 55.  Whew!  We ran into it to start and turned around and flew home.  It was my first run since early December with snow free, ice free, dry ground.  Hooray!  About 5 miles in 37:45.

I am currently training for the Southern Indiana Classic Marathon in April.

I made it 20 miles today and ran the first 8 miles straight through and then alternated between running and walking.

Cool and a little windy but other than that fine.

Be careful, lady. Working out when you are sick is a recipe for injury (ask my rotator cuff after a heavy weight lifting incident). My achilles tendon is still sore today. However, it is snowing heavily right now so I will be back to wearing my winter shoes tomorrow. If the pain ebbs, I think the problem have been the shoes. They feel a bit like Earth Shoes (for you old people), low in the heel. Hopefully I will be back at it tomorrow. I had to work yesterday.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

The endorphin effect is highly underrated, isn't it? I used to just ache, when I was doing heavy lifting. But, once I got a set or two under my belt, the pain seemed to go away. Obviously the endorpin rush.

If it proves to be the shoes, I will not be wearing them until after the marathon. At that point, I won't be running for while (back to weights).

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

I love this thread too, Roy! I come back here eagerly to see what else people are doing, obviously I don't come back often enough because the thread grew to like 5 pages. My last run was much much better than the previous one I posted in the wind. Today's was about a 5K and I ran it in 26:30. I am really excited because I signed up for my first 5K race....a prep race before the Ragnar in April. My 10K time is approx the same as doubling my 5K time, and I expect I will run the actual race faster than my average daily runs - as long as the wind doesn't blow at me and slow me down 20 seconds per mile. Mapmyrun estimated my speed to be 8:48, I'm pretty happy with that! I've learned that I"m a 'cruising speed' runner, once I begin feeling comfortable during my run, that's the pace I stay at. I can TRY to slow down but whenever I look at my time and miles logged later, it doesn't seem like I'm able to. All in all it was an excellent run and I feel great! I took Saturday off, it poured and rained and flooded here and I have absolutely no interest in running in the rain.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

That is SO true, Dreamstate! I keep trying to encourage my team members for the race to stop worrying about competing against other team members for time and just worry about doing their own personal best. I use the times other people rack up for inspiration, and I look at what they do for training to see what I can also use to get better or achieve my goals. I don't look at the guy who runs 4 marathons a year and posted up his avg mile time for a 10K as '7:00' and think 'oh no, I should just quit' lol!

I also run for my own enjoyment, one of my friends is feeling down because she says she can't seem to log all the training I do - well, if I didn't enjoy it, guess what I'd be doing? Yep, the bare minimum of training, which is like 20-30 min of easy time based running, not mileage, which is posted on the site. The reason I run more and the only reason - is that once I start, it's so fun to keep going. I am proud of me for sticking to my goals to run almost daily, and to actually race again. I worked hard to get back in shape after my daughter was 2, and now she's 7. I will probably never run in competition the way I did when I was 17 or 18, but I am still having as much or even MORE fun than I did back then. Perhaps I appreciate it more now

I tell my friends that I have bad days too, I do. There are days when I start running and I just feel like stopping, or simply running that 5K or for 30 minutes feels like it's going to take FOREVER. I'm tired or my knee hurts or my foot hurts or something is just 'off'. Bad days happen, but they aren't all the time.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Hi Lucie, I'm glad to hear you're feeling better . Sunday we went out to get acquainted with the Half Marathon route . The weather was beautiful, my legs felt good and off I went on the American Tobacco Trail .  I had planned to do ten miles, but plans change . At mile four I still felt really fresh and wasn't ready to turn around . I decided I'd turn around at the six mile mark, no big deal right, It's just one more mile . No, It's two more and it was hard, mile eleven in particular but I did it . Twelve miles in 1:53.29 , My longest distance by two miles and my longest time by about fifteen minutes . It was Fantastic ! I didn't want to stop . I will most certainly be resting today .

                                                                    How was yours ?  Marc

Well...havent posted for a few days. Last run was Saturday. Ran my dog (very happy now) for about a mile. Great warm up for me! Then ran myself about 3.1 miles after that at a 8 minute pace. Not very exciting scenery but was a great run. Good thing I enjoyed it because we now have out two thousand feet of snow stopping from running outside for the moment. Have I told everyone how much I love snow . Anyways great job everyone....Keep up the great work!!!!

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Yesterday's run was lovely!  Not too cold (5C)  Not too windy.  Dry and warm enough to leave the shoes home for the first mile and slipped on the VFF's for the last 4 miles.  Felt feisty enough to up the pace for a while on the way home.  Fun!

Is spring nearly ready to show herself in Mittel Europa?  I'm more a Budapest guy than Praha, but there's no question, the beer's better in Prague
