Re: My last run was...how was yours?

    Hi Lucie,

I actually just walked in from mine...last run that is. It was hot and sweat is pouring down. I haven't run or done any kind of exercise for the past two years due to family responsibilities. I hope yesterday and today will be the road to recovery from the running drought.

I only ran two miles, but I suffer from chronic back/siatic nerve pain and I have gained some weight over the years (17lbs)- that too I hope to remedy.

The run was cleansing though and not real tuff. I just ran at a moderate pace so as not to burn out before I get started back into a routine. My present goal is to run the July 4th 5K. No goals for time yet, but being the OC person I am, I'm sure I'll push it to the max.

I also started cycling again so with the combination maybe I can get back in shape faster.

May all your runs be sweet and your recoveries reflective of the joy it is to be alive.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

I went out last night to run about 3 miles, just to keep my sore calves from stiffening up any more. I ended up going 14. At some point I realized that I was 8 miles from home and still had to get back! It was cool and dark, a nice run. I wasn't hydrated properly nor had I eaten properly to do 14 miles, but I got it done in about 2 hours 20. I'm a little tired today. I'm going to skip my Thursday night 5k.

Wow, that is some zone you got into!  11 more than planned. Hope you feel good in the next few days.

Rick, I feel for you. I once forgot socks at hte gym, I tried to run, but ended up walking my mileage.  (though the time I forgot the jog bra, I went home and came back!)

I went for 3 miles this morning. Just not "feeling" in the mood, ya'll know what I mean?

Plus, i'm recovering from a bad case of poison ivy (had some volunteer growing on our property and ripped it out this weekend, wore gloves but not a long sleeve shirt & capris pants--the sores on my legs were stretching as my calves were working through different muscles while running. That is a very strangefeeling.

Bike for tomorrow, Sat. rest, more run on Sunday.

    Later.

My run this afternoon was slow. Not used to the sun and heat. It was a whopping 65 degrees out and too hot. I'm such a woose.

Ran 3.5 miles yesterday at about a 10min pace tired from the business of the last few days and more humid/hot than eariler in the week.  Today had no time to run and hoping for time tomorrow to get 5 in but looking like it may have to be a midnight run for that to happen...

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

My last run was yesterday morning.  Only able to eek out 4.40 miles at an almost 11 min pace.  Not happy with it, wanted 5 miles closer to a 10 min pace.  Will try again tomorrow.  Need a personal fanner to run with me and keep me cool.  Florida summers are not runner friendly.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Just wasn't "feeling" it yesterday when I went out to run, but ended up having a fairly good run anyways so I was kind of surprised.  I went 4.3 miles and pushed myself pretty hard.  Felt good though.  Today is my off day and then I'll probably get up in the morning and put in a 3 mile run (man I look forward to the days where I can add "easy" in front of that 3, haha!).  Good Luck to everyone running races this weekend!

No run today, had to work early and then off to the temple. On my way home the sign said 9:50pm and 95 F. The thought of running in that makes me weak. But I actually enjoy running in heat, up hill 3pm in August when it's dry and you breath in and feel the hot air sear your lungs. Yeah I know, I sound like an idiot but thats when your body forces water out your pores. You become totally relaxed and cleansed from the inside out.

Cycling tomorrow morning with my daughter at 9am then home for a short run (3.4miles) and 500yd swim. Told you I'm OC. I haven't even been swimming for two years. I hope they allow floaties : )

I went out tonight for 6.22. It took 59 minutes, which isn't too bad for me. I was wearing new shoes, Sauconny Kinvara 2's, and this is the furthest I've gone in them. They're quite a bit different than my 2150s, but I think the lightness of the shoe will pay off. I negative split this run pretty well, which I almost never do. Mile 6 was at 8:20.

I am wowed!!!!  I'm assuming you don't live in Florida because while we reach 95 it's 105 with the humidity and certainly not dry.  I wonder what the difference would be for running in a dry heat vs. the sauna here. It's a bear to continue to train here during the summer, at least for this newbie.

Enjoy your time with your daughter and you'll need to change your profile pic to you in your floaties.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

My last couple runs were my races, a half marathon (1:48) and a mud run (42:44). They were my first ever half and first ever mud run and I ran them exactly one week apart, on the 4th and on the 11th lol. Very different experiences... I know I will definitely run another half. I plan to run the SAME half next year as well as a few more if I can find reasonable cost ones. The mud run... oh boy. I ended up running it after turning down two friends who had been asking me, because my third friend to ask had a spot open since her son got sick. Can't beat getting a spot in a race for the original cost instead of the race day cost, right?? Well, I have learned from doing it that I don't really like mud. Some people LOVE those things, they like obstacles, getting down and dirty, it's more about having a team and enjoying the experience. Meh... I like running. The experience was a good one, I came in 5th for my age group and  24th for women overall but my time compared to a typical 5k was awful. I can't believe how much extra time it takes to get thru mud and go up and down whoop de dos lol. Add to that there were around 2500 people, yikes! I had planned on asking my daughter if she wanted to do the kids mud run because then I'd just do that with her, the kids one is only a mile. I wish I could make the face she made at me when I mentioned MUD. Soo... I might do an annual mud run with friends but it's not something I'm going to go digging thru to find. Going back to my half and 10k hole now . I guess what is running different things for than to learn what you like, AND what you don't?

My last training runs were positive too... a 5 mile run with my friend and a 4 mile solo run, both nice runs, I felt good.

Re: My last run was...how was yours?

Hahaha! The first place I ran was up in WA, now I live in CA. 65 is NOT hot... try running in 90 . I think the best running weather I've found so far is a bit hazy/overcast and around 56-60 - or a night leg in a Ragnar! Of course nothing is as bad as running at noon when it's 90 or hotter and the sun is trying to burn a hole in your running shorts. The worst part for me when living up there was running in the rain. I had a tough coach (I was in high school back then) and he claimed the rain, wind, sleet, and other goodies wouldn't make us melt. I didn't melt, I just decided to move to a nicer climate. Eventually lol.

Great 6+ mile run this morning in prep for the Peachtree Road Race. One of the local running stores sponsored a prep run that was the same course as the race. Couldn't have asked for better running weather: in the 60's, overcast, low humidity and a nice breeze. I felt so good on the run and was very impressed with my brother who hadn't run that far since last year's Peachtree Road Race. We're so ready for the world's largest 10K. Happy running everyone!

Almost there!  12 mile GU and Hydration test run.  Getting dialed in for next week's Seattle Rock & Roll 1/2 Marathon.  Leg and lungs feel great!

Formula: 1 5-hour Energy 15 minutes before the run, 1 GU at 4 miles, 1/2 GU at 6, 1/2 GU at 8, Switched between Gatorade and H20 every mile.

7:15 per mile average.  Race day hope to get that down to 7:00 and place top 10 in my age group...
