Back in 2005, the very first Australian rules football team was created, in Bakersfield.
In October of that year, an exhibition match was held in Bakersfield, with 3 other teams from the south taking part.
The Bakersfield Barbarians won their match. And the team was made up of 2 parents, teenagers and others in their mid twenties.
Australian rules football, or 'footy' as its also known, is played right across the US.
Some cities have leagues not only for men,but for women and juniors to.
At the end of each year, there is a national tournament, for the teams across the US to take part in.
In addition to this, the most skilled US players can represent their country in a international tournament, which is held in Melbourne Australia.
Footy is a fast, action sport and its also full contact. However, special rules and changes can be made, so that the game is totally safe for youngsters and or beginners.
