excellent in every regard. the race director for the 15k should have given us a heads up about the early 6 am start for the Sunday Half. I was late :(. outside of that it was a total blast. thanks so much for all your hard work. I am a race director so I know a little bit about what goes into putting a race together.
This was my first Gasparilla 5K, but not my first 5K. I work on Bayshore, so I knew this would be a fantastic race! The only suggestion I may have would be that with the amount of people running/walking in the 5K, it may have been a little easier to have the staging area divided into 2 lanes, 1 for runners and 1 for walkers. Other than that the event was well organized. I will be running again next year!
What a great race in a great city!
Very nice and well organized race. I appreciated the new 1/2 marathon course. See you next year.
Very well organized event. This was my second 5K and I will participate next year. The health fair and all the amenities offered the runners after the race was great! The electronic scoring was also amazing showing all the results on the internet the same day of the race!
This was ALMOST a perfect race. Beautiful, scenic, well-managed. But this race is in desperate need of corrals. The start is ridiculously chaotic and crowded. The bottle neck at the first bridge and water station were worse than Disney races (and those are the worst!).
But that fact won't stop me from running it again next year, I'll just have to arrive earlier next time. This was truely my favorite race of the 7 half marathons I've done. So beautiful and wonderful volunteers and spectators!
This was my first time running this particular half-marathon, and overall I was very pleased with the race. The route gets very tight at a couple of points (Davis Island bride, for example), and it's impossible to actually run when we're being funneled through these areas, but this is a minor complaint in a generally enjoyable race. The early start time was great because only about a quarter to a third of the race is run in the sun.
Well organized however there was no gatorade during the 5k, only water, and the water table after the race was way too far away from the finish line. I know the point is to shuffle people through quickly, but when it is 80 degrees and thousands of people moving in the same direction, the water should be avaikable a lot sooner to prevent dehydration. I'll be back next year though!
This was my first time at this event....did the 5k walk as a friend of mine invited me to join her group. Next year, I'm going to run the 5k! It was a great day, and so good to see so many people getting out there!
I had a great time running the 5 3K...my only issue I had was the start time. I feel the start time should be at least 30 minutes to an hour earlier than the 9am start time.
Great race and fantastic support throughout the whole race. Very easy to navigate up to the start of the race. The only issue was crossing over the bridge to Davis Island. I can't really see a way to minimize that bottleneck unless you stagger the start and that wouldn't be so ideal especially with the heat and sun that those towards the end would have to contend with. I plan to be back next year and run the whole Gasparilla Challange!
Course was nice and flat. One sharp turn at beginning that could be rethought. Biggest disappointment was the lackluster food/drink at the end. Also there was nowhere to sit...benches, walls, chairs, bleachers, etc. Most people stood and ate a plate of food.
Need PB or Cream cheese with bagels. Medals were great, tshirt was great. Expo was huge. Not near as many fans as I expected. I might do it again, not sure.
As usual, Gasparilla hosts a great race weekend. This was my first time running the half marathon and the setup was very good. While some areas funneled a bit too much for my liking and slowed down the pace in those areas, the course, start time and aid stations well well placed and manned. Can't wait to run it again next year.
This was my first 15K race and it was put on very well. The course was straightforward with plenty of refreshments and helpful volunteers. Looking forward to next year.
Organization wise, I thought it was a well oiled machine without any hiccups. But I have 2 down sides to this year's event (compared to last year).
1. The T-shirt down grade from last years Dri-Fit...
2. The Nike booth had a run assessment trainer station last year to gauge your running style and best shoe fit. I was so looking forward to it this year and was disappointed (as it was booked solid last year so wasn't able to try it) not seing it this year
