Along this line...do y'all take water with you every time you run?  I know this will be different for everyone, but was just curious about the answers.  Do you leave yours home for a 3 mile run, but carry it with you for a 5 mile run?  At what distance do you decide to take the water with you?

    Hi,

I just designed a new water bottle for runners called Simple Hydration. It's a water bottle that hooks onto a waistband so you don't need to carry water with your hands or have to put on a bulky hydration belt. You can check out the video and see it on www.simplehydration.com. Good luck with your hydration needs.

I've been using a Fuel Belt for 10 yrs. Anything 5 miles or over I wear it. A 4 bottle belt, 1 bottle for 5 miles, and another for each additional 3 miles (depending on the weather).  its also good for carrying gels, which I consume 1 per 5 miles, after having one before heading out.  So I max it out at 12-14 miles..

    Re: Need... water...

I've finally started to get away from bringing water with me to a 5K. Since they usually have one water stop I am good to go. Any race longer than that and I do bring my bottle. I would love to use one of the hydration belts but I am a bigger girl and I have yet to find one that will fit me......and I haven't seen the backpack style in person yet.

I usually don't take water with me unless I'm doing more than 3 - 4 miles. Beyond that, I almost always wear my hydration belt.

    Re: Need... water...

I'm up to doing closer to 5-6 miles a day on my runs now, so I broke down and bought a FuelBelt after having a run where I almost passed out from dehydration!  I don't wear it if I'm doing 4 miles or less, but have been wearing it if I'm doing anything over 4 miles just in case I need it.  With this crazy heat and humidity most of the time I've been glad I've had it with me!  My only complaint about the FuelBelt is that I have to wear it around my natural waistline instead of around my hips and I HATE things on my waist, but I guess I'd rather have something around my waist than pass out from dehydration!

    Re: Need... water...

I have a Nathan sprint bottle (handheld) and that's working for right now. I think I will do ok in long races with it because I can refill it at water stops but for training, I think I will need a fuel belt. I have a Nathan 'spi belt' that I use to carry my food and cell phone but maybe I should get something to wrap this all in one. I just hate the thought of lugging so much crap with me.

    Re: Need... water...

Dreamstate: I own 3 different Nathan bottles and will prep 1 or all 3 depending on how long my run is. If I need to switch out for a fresh one, I just leave it on my car or in my driveway (depending on where I'm running), and make sure to loop back to my car/house at my halfway point. Then I just ditch the old, grab the new and I'm on my way. Usually it won't even affect my pace because it's barely a stop. Also, I don't know about your Nathan bottles, but mine have a little zipper pocket where I can fit up to 3 gels inside of it, that way my food and drink are together in the same place. I don't carry anything else with me so I don't have a need for a belt.

    Re: Need... water...

Has anyone used the iFitness hydration belt, and does it really "stay put" as advertised?

The one belt I've tried - don't recall the brand, but it's velcro-fastened and has clips for four bottles - bounced around if I didn't fasten it right around my waist, and rotated counter-clockwise as I ran.

Right now I'm using a small bottle with a hand strap, and try to route my long runs to include water fountains or a loop past my house to refill.
