Now that I've acted the fool and have been posting like a crazy man, here's my go at this:
First, to actually RUN to, I went to YouTube and downloaded a bunch of Marine Corps running cadences that were posted. Great cadence at about 160 bpm which works good for a 9-10 min/mi. (Hey - the big boy runs slow, but he runs far ). Also, if you sing along it helps you learn to build and regulate your breathing. For running and inspiration for running, my top three would be:
1) Marathon - Rush
2) Lonliness of the Long Distance Runner - Iron Maiden
3) The Runner - Mafred Mann
3a) Where are We Running - Lenny Kravitz
3b) How Fast Can You Run - Rocco Deluca
3c) You Are A Runner (And I am My Father's Son) - Wolf Parade
3d) How Far We've Come - Matchbox 20 (good tune for the end of a 200 mi/24 hr. relay)
I have to leave now. It's windy, rainy, 10:00 at night, I just did 12 hrs. and I'm dead tired, but just thinking about this makes me want to lace 'em up and head out and if I don't walk away from this now I probably will.
Will be adding Fields of Athenry - Dropkick Murphys to my running playlist... Thanx for the suggestion!
Heres my top three:
1. I Promise You I Will - Depeche Mode (yes the one from the end of Napoleon Dynamite... dunno why it works but it gets me moving like nothing else)
2. Top of the World - Van Halen
3. Forever - Chris Brown
Corny I know but it works for me... also have Amazing Grace by Dropkick Murphies and Hold on Tight - ELO on there as well... good suggestions!
Here are my top 3 lately (that seem to be on a different planet than the majority here, sorry)-
-"Ghost of Tom Joad" Bruce Springsteen with Tom Morello, live version. (It's about 8 mins long, so I know when it is over I should be around a mile).
-"Hot Tin Roof" Brian Setzer Orchestra, live
-"Sultans of Swing", Dire Straits
i love this topic too and love the ideas...right now my top 3 are:
Dog Days are Over by Florence & the Machine
Umbrella / Singing in the Rain Mashup by Gwenyth P. & Glee
Run this Town by Jay-Z and Rihanna
I think mine have to be Foo Fighters songs because they're so full of energy, I feel like I run faster when I'm listening to them. My top three are:
Best of You
All My Life
I like this question. My top three running songs. Chevelle Send the pain below SoundGarden Rusty Cage The All American Rejects Move along. Move along by The All American Rejects is my powersong really helps me pull out a little extra in my run.
Seriously three? Oh boy.
"Animals" Nickelback, "Paralyser" Finger Eleven, "If you want blood" ac/dc....... if you want to get-r-done!
"Break up song" Greg Kihn, "She's got the (woo-hoo)" Sugar Ray, "I'm not running anymore" John Mellencamp, "Trouble" Pink, "Mercury Blues" David Lindley, "Forget you" Cee Lo Green, "Don't Stop" Fleetwood Mac, "Mr.Brightside" Killers .......... if you don't want to stop smiling on your run!
For long marathon training runs I've actually downloaded audio books to my ipod, and listened to a couple of novels during training. It mixes it up!
Last nights run playlist included:
Wasted Years - Iron Maiden
Killed By Death - Motorhead
You Don't Remember. I'll Never Forget - Yngvie Malmsteen
For the record I also had Jevel, Counting Crows and Tom Petty on there. But when I need that extra boost it has to be metal.

I love this thread! Thanks for all the awesome suggestions! Tough to pick 3 but my favs this week are: Rolling in the Deep, Adele ET, Katy Perry and Eminem I'm Goin In, Drake & Lil Wayne (kinda naughty lyrics but it makes me giggle) I'm going to look in to those podcasts, I've been wanting to figure out how to match my music to my cadence. I slow down and speed up with the tempo of the song playing... J
