3.1 miles yesterday... First time ever!

I finally finished a 5k training run.
After running 2.8 miles the day before, my body was daring me to finish it off, and the momentum of crossing that milestone drew me in. I am technically only in Week 7 of C25K, but I couldn't help it. My body was feeling great, and I wanted to clear that hurdle.
This weekend is rest, with soreness in my shins and calfs, so giving my body a hard-earned rest. I will probably dial back to about 2.75 or so for my next few runs, but I am excited to keep improving my 5k time of 34:08.
Thanks to everyone who's given me good vibes this last month.

Outstanding! It's surprising at times how happy your body gets when you start using it. Just be careful not to push too hard too fast, or you can injure yourself. But great job! When I started running, I couldn't run a mile. I ran 9.5 this morning! Keep up the good work!

Awesome! I got all the way to the end of c25k not having run a whole 3.1 miles, because I can't quite do it in 30 minutes yet. So, for my first workout after c25k (essentially week 10) I ran until I got to 3.1 miles (not counting my warmup walk distance.) I have about the same time. I am scheduled to run my first 5K race one week from today, and I am psyched. I totally know what you mean about just wanting to get to that milestone. My next milestone after the race is 45 minutes running, then I'm starting to train for my 10K!
I may not be good, but I'm slow! ![]()
RRH:
Thanks again for the encouragement. It does feel good, and I think my body is starting to crave the chemicals that are released from a run more than some of the other ones in my life, like coffee and crappy food I used to eat. In any event, I agree completely about the importance of preventing injury, and would hate to push it too far. I got a blister on my 3.1 mile run on the right instep, so I'm taking the rest of the weekend off from running. I rode a stationary bike yesterday for 30 minutes, to get my exercise fix, and today (Easter Sunday) is a complete Off-Day. When my running partner and I start up again after work tomorrow, I think we'll be running somewhere between 2.5 and 2.75, backing off that longer distance, which I realize I don't need to hit every day at this point, having been running 2 miles + for only a couple weeks. I assume that the more times I run 2 - 2.5 miles, the easier that next 3.1 miler will be.
Thanks,
Jarrod
P.S. I'll be very thrilled to get where you are now, hopefully in the next year or so. You keep up the good work as well.

Good luck with your race next week! I thought about signing up for a 5k next Sunday, but that seemed a little close considering my schedule, so I'm going to probably stick to my original plan to run one on June 19, which will give me time to complete a proper 6-week beginner's 5k training program. The program in one of the Runner's World books that I have starts out running 2 miles, which I'm fairly confident I can do a few times a week at this point, and builds from there to a max distance of 4 miles before tapering into the race.
Thanks for your input and thoughts.

Keep up the great work!
I'm new to running. I completed the couch to 5K program on March 11th.
First 5k, Seafarer's House, completed April 2nd! 33:49
Congratulations. Enjoy your rest and always listen to your body. The C25K has a schedule associated with it but the real goal is not if you can do it in the prescribed time, but whether you will stick with it or not. So keep up the good work you are doing, and go find a 5K to enter. I know you will have a blast participating in it, and you will probably surprise yourself at the time you run. And I truly hope you will continue to stick with running and be addicted to it as a lot of us here are.
