PRP injections used to treat high hamstring tendonopathy....any advice?

I have been trying to rehab high hamstring tendonopathy for 2 months. Physical Therapy, massage therapy and complete rest have all been tried with no progress being made. Today the orthopedist suggested PRP injections. Anyone have experience or wisdom they can share with me about this form of treatment?
Alrighty then....no replies so I guess I'm flyin blind tomorrow as I get my first PRP injection. Here's to a big shot in the booty! Let's hope this therapy does the trick!
We are all waiting to see what happens to you, Fourth. That's why no replies, lol! Some pair PRP with Prolotherapy to enhance the effect, but I'm not sure about its suitability for the tendonopathy you have. I guess we'll find out..
What led to this injury? Do you bike? I'm wondering if there is anything to do with seating...
Ugh! Had the first ultrasound guided PRP injection as planned. I'm happy to report that it was not painful at all. (The worst of it was bearing my bottom to 4 people during the procedure as the doc was teaching another doc and a tech.) My hamstring was sore for about 4 days afterward but the pain was not much worse than what I experienced on a daily basis anyway. I was told that after the first injection I should not expect relief of the pain of the injury and this has proven to be the case. I feel about the same although maybe not quite as severe high (under the tailbone) on the hamstring. I was told not to run. I ran once....only a half a mile. Not so great at following directions I know. No better or worse after that much needed "shot in the arm". I have been walking regularly (bout 5 miles per day) and have tried swimming (hate it) and biking (new activity for me which irritated the bulging disc in my lower back). Next injection scheduled for the 21st after which I am hopeful that I will be able to jog a little and feel some relief. I am told I will begin some eccentric pt exercises. This is VERY frustrating and I hate to think about it but I started having the same symptoms in the other leg.
I mentioned it to the doc who said maybe I should try an epidural to rule out the disc being the source of pain. I feel like he is not hearing me when I tell him that IT'S THE SAME PAIN!!!! I'm not happy that he wants me to waste time and money on the epidural. It will take about 3 months to get back on any kind of running schedule after the first PRP injection....if we treat one leg at a time that's 6 months!!
He keeps saying "people in our age group" (I'm 48) can't do this and can't do that.....that I have to cut back on distance running permanently. Says I'm in denial. I'm tired of being told what I can't do. Heck! I'm just getting started! Grouchy aren't I?!?!
I'm not sure what caused this injury....on one hand I think that I wasn't strength training enough or strengthening my core. Or maybe I concentrated on the milage on the schedule too much. I don't know and I can't seem to get an answer from any of the 4 docs I've seen for this.
I'm reading Born to Run while I'm sitting by the pool waiting to heal. Makes me want to just forget the doctors, go out into the wilderness and run! In fact I was going to cheat this evening and run a little bit. It's so pretty outside today....but.....before I went to the pool a frozen bottle of water fell out of the refrigerator onto my foot and I think it broke my big toe! Oh brother! ![]()
Next PRP injection on the 21st....if I show up. ![]()
Had the second injection. Feeling some relief high in the hamstring on that leg but the lower hamstring is still painful. Other leg showing same exact symptoms. Advised not run for another 6 weeks. Doing hamstring strengthening and a little stretching although that is quite painful. Doc still saying maybe I should consider giving up running. Not so happy with that advice. I don't want to give up but feeling defeated.
If you get really frustrated.........I bet the best prolotherapist in the USA (Dr. Hauser, caring medical.com) would encourage you to stay active during prolotherapy, but maybe only elliptical for awhile.............if the PRP doesn't do it....though I believe it will...............ask for strong prolo with sodium murhuatte 4 to 6 treatments and you'll likely get really strong there................I have had my whole body done after a bad bicycle accident...............this doc is a 3 time ironman finisher.
