Hi, John, I'm new to this thread but think I've read your posts in the Newbie Cafe? Anyway I noticed you completed C25k in Feb. and you are talking about W1 of a program. Can I assume that's B210K? What were you doing to keep up your running between February and now?

    Re: From C25k to B210k

Hi guys! I graduated C25k three weeks ago and have been putting off starting B210k until I build my distance to 3 miles and also because I am training for trail runs. So I was checking your thread thinking you would have some good experiences and I see a lot of thos and some familiar - ?icons- Hi, Michael! I have no faith in my ability to train myself but I think I've done ok so far. Took some from Richard"s advice and have been adding 10% to my time each week. I was up to 2.5 miles at my last indoor run.

Katie, the heat with the humidity can just suck the life right out of you. On the other hand, your body could also need that break. When I worry if I am backsliding, I take a run indoors and If I can't conquer that, then I don't know what because I've always been fine doing that - so far. It calms me to know that weather is interfering and I have a choice.

All was going well until this last week when my body wouldn't even run the 2.5 I ran last week let alone the extra 3 min I had planned. I would blame it on the weather but this week was no worse than before. My inhaler may be on the fritz since I ran it through the washer but how would I know? It could keep making noise long after it's empty. So, I'm thinking maybe my body just needed an adjustment week and trying the treadmill today. This better work because if it doesn't, I'll be giving up on my self-training and starting up that B210k with its dreaded intervals before I get any softer.

Hey MK, good to see ya!

Put me in the "heat is beating you down" category.  I'm still running every other day, but I have cut out running daily for the most part.  We did have a break in the heat yesterday, I think the high was 95.  Much better than those 120 heat index days.  Anways, nothing real special coming from my direction.  Just wanted to drop in and say hello.

    Re: From C25k to B210k

Here I am back from my holidays.  Went camping for 2 weeks, had a great time and the weather was good.  I managed to keep my running schedule going, I ran on different types of paths though which was interesting.  Tried running on the beach but that was really not for me, too windy and hard to run in the sand.  There was a running/walking trail, and I tried that a couple of times but there was stairs and I found that hard on my knees.

I am back home now and did my W8D1 this morning.  I am now up to 3.97 miles, which I am quite happy with because I rememeber when I thought I would never be able to do 3.  Still at a slow pace however, of about 13/min.

Hope everybody has a good running week.

    Re: From C25k to B210k

    Hi everyone!

Hope we all had a good weekend, horrible here today with the rain, took a much needed day off.

    Mkayc,

Welcome, funny thing is after reading the B210k, it's basically what I've been doing since I completed since late February. I restarted the C25k at week 6 and went to week 9, but after reading the B210k, I've basically been doing week 1 every time lol. I run for 10 minutes or so, walk a minute then restart, I was going for 4-5 miles doing that. I didnt' want to stop running so I had to do something, I've lost almost 40lbs doing this, can't stop now.

I did W2D1 and W2D2 this weekend, hope to finish W3 Tuesday since I'm playing tennis tomorrow eather permitting.

    Have a good night everyone!

    Re: From C25k to B210k

The weight loss is fantastic, John! Good for you. it must make running a lot easier. I'm out of commission at the moment from a back injury but am thinking of seriously dieting to thank my body for healing when I get back to training. Think I might start up B210k and just keep repeating W1 until I can do it. Thanks for the info.

    Re: From C25k to B210k

Have my first real race next Saturday and I'm starting to get nervous. Can you give me some advice for race day? A friend was coming with but he found another (longer) race he'd rather run so I'm a little anxious about race day prep and how to avoid easy mistakes. It's a morning race and a trail run and will probably be very popular since its number six in a series of nine (or something along those lines). Any advice would be appreciated!

    Mary Kay,

You'll do fine!  I've only raced three so far, but here are a couple of things.  Get up in plenty of time and get there about an hour early.  Get plenty of sleep the night before.  Go ahead and lay your clothes out the night before, attach your bib, etc.  Just one less thing to worry with the next morning.  Eat LIGHT the morning of the race and try to eat at least 2 hours before the start.  RELAX!  Everyone is worried about their own runs and really aren't that concerned with your time, so don't sweat it.  Most people are just happy to be out running with everyone.  PACE yourself.  Try not to get caught up in the excitement and burn yourself out too soon.  That's about all I can think about, good luck!

    Re: From C25k to B210k

Gotta love a man with a plan. Thanks, Michael, this is exactly what I was looking for! It's going to be rocky at best. Tried running the course today and the heat/humidity had me turning around at 2.6 miles and I barely ran. The HRM was into 140 when I was just walking my penguin pace and then would shoot up to 145 the minute I started to job. I know that's not real high for most of you but I was trying to keep a pace I could sustain and my 95% is at 158 (because of my age). Then I went home and ran another 30 min on the treadmill and barely cracked 125. WTH??? Looking for a miracle or a shortcut but not going to wus out.

    I'M BACK!

I love the way my body healed itself! Aren't our bodies such amazing machines? Jogged 40 min. (2.8 mi) for a new record distance and time. Weather was nearly perfect, 70 with 50% humidity, and I had an hour deep tissue massage last night and I was on a flat street but it's nice to know I'm not permanently broken. Even did my first fartlek in between Larabar farts. Love the taste but they sure give me gas. Good runs, all! - Mary Kay
