Re: Starting Couch to 5K week of June 20th?

I am in if that's ok.

I was actually starting pre-couch to 5k work outs tomorrow.

I have never been a runner so this is going to be something else since I am 340lbs at the moment.

Are we going to check in on this thread or are you going to start an official thread on 6/20?

I am in.  I technically started this past Saturday, but I am a 280 lb woman so I figure I will need to repeat weeks.  I am already battling shin splints (a little).

Where are you from?  I am in Minnesota.

I'd like to join in, if that's all right. Last year I did a couch to 5K and actually ran a 5K, but then I hurt my hip and never really was able to get back into it so my weight's back up and I'm out of breath going up stairs. I'm 50 pounds overweight so it would be nice - especially on my knees - to lose some of it and not be out of breath when I walk up stairs.

I am starting on Monday June 20th, so count me in as well.  Going in cold, having never been a runner in my life.   I was a swimmer in highschool and have played a lot of basketball, tennis and racquetball over the years but in the last 5 years have done very little, mainly because I have 3 boys (ages 1,4,7).   I need to get in shape, so I am ready to start the fun.

( I am in Indianapolis, IN  btw)

It's working out great for me - I'm doing run #2 in week 4 tomorrow - I did not believe I'd be able to run at all as soon as they said but it really does work.  I finished the run on Wednesday (it's 5 min walk, then R3, W1.5, R5, W2.5, R3, W1.5, R5)  and was so surprised - the pain i had in my ankles and shins from week 2 were basically non-existent.  I'm so excited to get to next week. . .

Re: Starting Couch to 5K week of June 20th!

    Day 1/3 Pre-C25k: 1.55 mile walk in 30min on assorted terrain/hills. 10 min stretching both pre/post workout.

My fitness tracker stated I averaged 3.2mph with a rogue "burst" of 6.1mph max speed.

That was just me jumping out of the way of a passing SUV, because I did not run at all.

Tomorrow I am resting but will be back on the road Saturday for another 30min session.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Re: Starting Couch to 5K week of June 20th!

Just wanted to check in with you folks.  I liked for people further in the program to post when we were just beginning, so i thought I would return the favor.

You should all be really proud of yourself for taking on this challenge!  Just remember why you started and support each other and you can do ANYTHING!  One thing to make sure to keep in mind, is that anything you do in the program is better than the couch!  Be proud of all the small accomplishments.  Good luck!

I will be running W9D3 today.  I NEVER ran before C25K, but always wanted to.  Now I run at least a 5k each time I go out.  I can't do it in 30 minutes, as I am VERY slow.  But, like I said, better than the couch!

    Happy running

    Jeannette

Re: Starting Couch to 5K week of June 20th!

Hey all I would like to join! I have been wanting to start this for a week now but I got sick and am now just feeling health again! I am not a runner and tried to be one on my own last year by training for a 5k. I did it, but with no support and no help on pacing myself... I did my first 5k last June for the Koman race for the cure and finished in 36mins... but as soon as I did it I think my mind set was (I did it, yay for me) I failed to continue... but it was hard, hard to do it alone. so I found this program, downloaded the podcasts now reaching out for support... I am also going to be doing this with the Vibram barefoot shoes... I have taken my puppy out for walks and have really ended up loving them... it really feels like I have no shoes on, yet my feet are protected from the ground. anyway I am very excited to start this and FINISH this... also to continue this. I have always dreamed of running in a marathon. I just need to take baby steps!
