Re: Starting Couch to 5K week of June 20th!

Hi I am a 52 year old male, 6 feet tall 209 lbs. never ran in my life. I am just finishing my second week of th program. I could barely do the 60 second jog in the first week ,so starting the second week i was very doubtful about doing 90 seconds of jogging. To my surprise, the second week has gone very well, I am able to do the 90 second jogging segments pretty decently. I am getting pretty excited for the third week, I hope it goes as well as the second week has, of course I know it gets harder and harder, but hopefully my body will adjust.I am aiming for being ready for a 5 k in November, realistcaly, I think 30 minutes is out of the question, but a more realistic goal for me would be 40 - 45 minutes, if I could do that, I would be very happy.,

    Hey all,

I just started today, did w1d1!! woke up early before the heat got to much!! I feel good that I did it!! I think half of my problem is that I started horseback riding lessons this past Friday, and I am sore...

I have a question... is everyone doing it like Sun-Sat is a week... or every other day... Sun, Tue, Thu. as week one... then Sat, Mon, Wed. as week two? just curious as to what everyone is going to be doing....

I began last week on Monday, the 13th so I am technically beginning week 2 - but I totally anticipate having to do some weeks over.  I am already stressing about having to run 90 seconds straight...  but I AM IN!  I have never been a runner and am trying to get back into shape after gaining 70 lbs due to thyroid cancer... I am 3 years cancer free and have lost 45 of the 70 lbs...I am Julie from Battle Creek, MI

Day 2/3 Pre-C25k: 2.0 mile walk in 35 min on assorted terrain/hills. 10 min stretching both pre/post workout.

I am staying dedicated to this regimen. I was at a house warming party last night and got home at midnight.

My workout above was from about 12:40am to 01:40am with the stretching per/post workout.

I am on a rest day today but will be back on the road tomorrow for possibly a 2.5 walk.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Re: Starting Couch to 5K week of June 20th!

I finished my last run in week 4 - I start week 5 on Tuesday.  I run every other day.  I notice now that my legs don't hurt as much in the runs - and I am still amazed that I could run the 3 and 5 minute slots without stopping.  I count to 8 in time with steps (1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 and then over again) in a rhythm - sometimes in line with the music, other times not if I'm on a faster face - and I found doing that I stay consistent, and have continued to decrease my run time.  I finished my first 5K/3.23 miles today - of course as you know with the program it's run and walk but I'm just so ecstatic that I could even do that distance.  I actually look forward to running in the mornings which is a change.

Re: Starting Couch to 5K week of June 20th!

Starting tomorrow as well. Hoping I can stick with it and would definitely help me not fall off the wagon if I knew I was accountable! 5 ft tall, 150 lbs. Need to lose atleast 20 lbs or more! I love being lazy and would much rather not do this, but realize I should. Knees are starting to ache etc. Have 2 kids 4 and 6!

hello folks!  i'm in for 20 jun.  i'm thinking i can start off on the training plan without any prep work.  i'm not too out of shape for a middle aged fat chick.  i have been riding my bike to work for about three weeks and can do a bit of walking when i want to.

It is truely inspring to see you all so committed, I am excited for you!
It is not because it is easy, but rather a challenge worth
    accomplishing.
If you stay committed, you will get something out of this, and it will be more than just your health.
Persevering will not only pay off in running, but in life as well.

Re: Starting Couch to 5K week of June 20th!

    Hi! Count me in too!

I did the program two years ago and loved it but gradually got out of the habit of running when work got crazy-- and I regret it!  So I decided it's time to start again.  Since I'm closer to 50 than 40, I have to ease into it.

I did W1D1 tonight on a treadmill.  I felt pretty good -- not too badly out of breath but my legs felt tired by the end.  And boy, was I sweaty, lol!

C25K started on 06/19/11 and completed on 08/22/11!
