Re: Starting Couch to 5K week of June 20th!

Hm, somehow I ended up with a doublepost.  I'll have to think of something else to say here...

Has anyone been making plans for post-C25K?  I was thinking about doing the Bridge to 10K but I also want to work on my speed. I may use an intermediate training schedule I found in Runner's World Complete Book of Women's Running. It seemed to be a little less aggressive than some of the other programs. I feel like I may need to settle into running 30 minutes routinely before getting too ambitious.  And I may take a rest week off from running to help with healing, etc. as Barrios suggests.

Re: Starting Couch to 5K week of June 20th!

I've been adding minutes to my runs each day and distance.  I want to build my distance, and then focus on speeding up

For the last week or so, I've been running for 3 minutes, walking for 2 and increasing my overall workout.  I've found that my pace is almost where it was earlier in this program, and I've also looked at long-term training plans for marathons to kind of build up my weekly miles.

I don't really have a defined plan like I did for C25K - I found that there are so many plans out there and I just kind of judge what looks best.  I am following a "hybrid" right now from Jenny Hadley for marathon training, but tweaked it to fit my half-marathon that's coming up in a few weeks.

Anyone else have anything they are looking at?

Re: Starting Couch to 5K week of June 20th!

Tonight I finished W8D2. I did 2.72 miles in the 38 minutes so I'm off on time (obviously since I'm a penguin) but I did manage to run a smidgeon faster tonight.  I felt very comfortable during the entire 28 minutes. It's starting to get really fun!  I worry less about finishing and spend more time figuring out if I want to a do a faster interval, or slow down a bit, etc.  The time goes fairly quickly. The weather should be a little more temperate this weekend (80s and less humid) so I think I'll run outside -- I can't wait!

Only 4 more runs to go and then I 'graduate' -- how amazing!

    Happy running everyone!

Re: Starting Couch to 5K week of June 20th!

    Today I completed W9D3   Yahoo!

It was a challenge, my husband is out of town for the week, so I have had to change to running indoors this week.  I find running at the gym suffocating!  Like my skin is being smuthered but after a huge mental peptalk last night and this morning, I managed to complete it.  2 days ago, I couldn't make it 12 minutes on the treadmill, so I am very happy with how today went.

As for my plans to keep this up, I am going to spend next week, once I return to outside running, I am going to bump my running time up to 35 minutes and each week, just keep adding to the time

    I finished W8!

Tonight I ran outside. I'm not sure about distance. I suspect I was slower so it was less than on the treadmill. But there were...hills.  I think running outside uses some different muscles.  But overall it was fun and I was done so quickly.

    Only three more runs...

Re: Starting Couch to 5K week of June 20th!

Well, tomorrow's the last day.  I've run my W9:D1 & D:2 earlier this week, took today off and have a 5k tomorrow (I plan on counting that as my W9:D3). Can't wait!  I've been running the 3 mile runs in just over 10 min mile pace, so if I can accomplish that in the race I will be very happy, but as long as I finish I will be pleased.  I plan on starting the 1/2 marathon training program next week. It looks similar to the 10k program and I hope that the training I've done through this program helps. I remember huffing and puffing through a 1/4 mile jog week 1 and am totally amazed that I can now run 3 miles nonstop.   I spoke with my Dr. who cared for me when I ruptured a disk in my back last October and he was absolutely thrilled with my progress. He had not heard of the C25k program but was asking me all about it and was very complimentary of it after reading it ("This is the right way to get in shape.  Get your body ready for the muscles you build."). He said he's going to start recommending it to some of his patients after seeing my results.   Overall I've lost 10lbs, but the bigger part is dropping 6% in my body fat, my BP is 117/70 and my sitting heart rate is 68. Resting heart rate is around 52-55.  I've run over 75 miles and burnt over 9500 calories.  I'm in so much better shape than I was 9 weeks ago and the belly is flattening out - to the extent 2 of my friends have started working out again.   I have really enjoyed reading everyone's progress and it definitely has helped me stay motivated!  I'm actually at the point I love to run. If I go more than a couple of days, I get ancy and want to get back on the road!

Well I did it! W9:D3 is in the books!  I'm done!!!  I ran a 5k this morning with no walking in a time of 32:20 (with some huge hills too). Figure I'll rest up today and start the 1/2 marathon training on Monday.   1st time I have ever run a 5k straight through.

Does anyone have trouble with the GPS?  Mine starts to work and stays green then goes to orange and I have to re-start it.  It is really messing with my stats and getting me very frustrated.  I have tried the troubleshooting on the app.  Help please - I am in week 8 and running a 5k in 2 weeks so I really need to keep track of my stats.

Re: Starting Couch to 5K week of June 20th!

Completed W9D1 on Monday and W9D1 on Friday.  I had some business travel sandwiched in this week so that disrupted my schedule.  One more run and I've completed the program. Then I need to figure out what to do...I think I will take a week off from running (read that suggestion in Runners World) and focus on some crosstraining, then do a few weeks of 3 days/30 minutes to settle in, then slowly add some time. I would like to add a 4th day of running.

@xfitjunkie - what GPS are you using?

I have two programs I use - one is Nike+ on my ipod touch.  I like it b/c I can use my music and still have my stuff recorded.

I invested in a garmin 305 about a month ago or so, with the heart monitor, and I love it.  It sometimes is off from the garmin, but usually no more than .2 - .35 and since I've used my Nike+ for most of my training, I still use that as the recorder, but the garmin has many more features with it (like lap recording) so I like it.  Looks bulky but feels light.

Well, tonight was my last 30 minute run -- so I've completed the program. I'm not 100% sure what I'm going to do yet but I think I might take a break for a few days to let some soreness heal, then try settling into a routine before trying to increase any distance.  Good luck to those of you still working your way through the program!

Hurrah for you!  That is so awesome.  I have read your post, and saw that it was not easy, but you did it.  Also GRADS to ChrisG-71 and Padvali--you did it too.  That is great.  I am sure there are others that have completed this course as well.  I just read the last page.

Re: Starting Couch to 5K week of June 20th!

    Vegas here!

I should  be finished now too.  I have lots of excuses, some valid and some not.  I had hoped to be done so that when I go to my 2 doctors next week I could share this undertaking with them and with my fingers crossed hear good results on my labs. I have done some jog/walking and never stopped walking each day but I have not been doing the program.

Wednesday I went out to pick up where I left off.  I knew I was in Week 4 and as I remembered I did the drill.  I walked brisk, jog 5 minutes, walked 1 1/2 minutes, Jog 8 minutes, walked 2 min.  Jog 5 minutes, walked 1 1/2 minutes and jog 8 minutes.    "as I remembered "     is the catch(memory is the first to go).    I was NOT doing week 4 at all.  I was somewhere in week 5 between day 2 and day 3. I read my post after doing Week 4D1.  I said jogging 3 minutes was long and tiring, and I had to talk my way through the last 5 minute jog and was glad to quite.  Wednesday I jog 2 5's and 2 8's.  It was hard and I wondered how anyone could enjoy jogging and how everyone was talking about how much easier things were getting.   As I jog I kept telling myself that I was out of shape and i was not enjoying this because it had been weeks since I had did this and it might take awhile to get back up to where I was.  I just wanted to quilt into the second 5 minutes jog and I was not looking forward to the last 8 minute at all.  But my competiveness kept me going.  When I got home I was exhausted, and felt good only because I had completed the day.

It wasn't until last night when I looked at the program to see what to do today did I realize the mistake I had made.  Instead of 2- 3 minute jogs and 2 - 5 min. I had done 2 5 and 2 - 8 minute jogs.  No wonder I was exhausted!!!!!  I can't believe I made that big of a mistake.  Did I learn from this---YES -- My body is capable of more than I thought and that maybe one the reason it is hard at times for me is in my mind.  In week 4 I was complaining about making it through the last 5 minutes and then I did this!
