The Hampton Roads Junior Whalers are one of the premier Junior hockey clubs on the East Coast, and are opening their high performance Summer training program to players outside of the Whalers organization. Training begins July 11 and runs through September 2, 2011 and will be held at the Chilled Ponds Ice Sports Complex, a state of the art facility located in Chesapeake, VA. Players can participate in training a week at a time or commit to the whole 8 week program. This program is ideal for players preparing for high level High School, Junior A/B, Prep School or College hockey.
Each 1 week session includes 10 hours of on ice instruction per week and 5 hours of strength and conditioning work. Additional training sessions are available from Bon Secours In-Motion Physical Therapy and Athletic Training, located at the Chilled Ponds.
This training camp would also be a great Summer vacation destination for the family, as Chesapeake, VA is located 15 minutes from beautiful Virginia Beach. The Whalers are partnered with LTD Management Company to provide low cost hotel options near the Chilled Ponds and the facility is located within close proximity to shopping, restaurants and many other attractions. Players also have the option of billeting with host families for a small fee.
Players are also being sought out to play for one of the Whalers two Junior teams for the 2011-12 hockey season. The Hampton Roads Whalers participate in the MJHL and SEJHL and have a long standing track record of moving players on to higher levels of hockey including NCAA D3, NAHL, USHL and 1 NHL Draft Pick-Radislav Illo, Anaheim Ducks.
