Re: Women's new running Fashion

I'm running the Dublin Marathon on Oct 31, and they are encouraging costumes.  If I can think of a cool way to make one of those skirts into a marathon-friendly, fun costume ... I may indeed go for it.  Any good ideas??  !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!

Outside of Halloween, I can't say I'd run in a skirt.  I think I'm pretty feminine, but that's pushing it even for me!  Seems silly.  If I run alone, its at 5:30 am, too early for frou-frou.  If I run with a group, its typically all guys + me and I think they'd make fun of me.  Scratch that, I know they'd make fun of me.

Re: Women's new running Fashion

For a 5K...ok maybe cute but will they make race-ready skirts? And if so...how stupid will that look.  I need my race ready pockets and if you carry water, the skirt thing just seems goofie.
I guess if your..hippy or hiding cellulite it is a good thing. I just wish they make more patterned bras and matching shorts so..it doesn't show when you are cold as much. The solid stuff just accentuates pointing.

At first I saw the ad and thought they were the stupidest thing in the world. Of course we must be fashionable while we are sweating - Let's have perfectly coifed hair and make-up and make an imression in our cute little skirts. But then I wonder...Tennis players wear skirts. I just wonder if they will catch on or not.

Re: Women's new running Fashion

It's not the cuteness factor that matters so much, it's the advantage of no chafing.  Because of that, running skirts simply look like a good idea to me, and more power to asap.

Re: Women's new running Fashion

I am really cheap, so it will have to wait until they go on sale for me to buy one... but i think it is a great idea and cute!

someone asked about running shorts riding up in the crotch/ between the legs- it is trial and error with running shorts, some ride up, others do not. i think buying them bigger will give more fabric to ride up. just my opinion. i just bought a pair of the target champion running shorts and wore them on a 14 miler and they did not ride up at all! and i had a coupon from fitness mag or runners world

Re: Women's new running Fashion

Yes, I think I would try a skirt just because I am curious.  But, I, too, will wait until I see them at Marshalls or TJMaxx.  $60 is way too much to spend on an experiment. I haven't had the "bunching" or "riding up" problem lately, I did lose some weight and I bought new shorts, so I am not sure if it was the weight loss or the new shorts that cured the problem.  Saucony and New Balance have some good, reasonably priced shorts that haven't headed north on me.

Re: Women's new running Fashion

I've never run in one personally, but I do know someone who runs ultras in them.  She said they are much easier to modestly pee in.  I have run several ultras with no port-a-john's and in the winter with few leaves on the bushes, it does kind of leave you hanging out there(pardon the pun) !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|border=0!

Oh, and the ones I've seen have biker shorts under.

I haven't seen a photo but I too would definitely consider it, purely for comfort and convenience reasons.  Can anyone post a link so I can check them out?

They have those "changing" kilts in some of the magazines. They are supposed to be used to change after the race. A trash bag works wonders as a changing cloak though and is much cheaper !
I know my husband and his buddies used to make jeans skirts to hike in up in the mountains -they were much cooler back in the day when therewere not "tech" fabrics and jeans were it! It was the 60's so people really didn't care about what they wore.
I haven't seen the skirts, but I bet some women will like the option. I can't see the point for myself though!

Re: Women's new running Fashion

Yeah, I'd never wear a skirt but maybe some folks will use them. I love wearing my shorts and couldn't wear anything else! I love to sweat and can't imagine doing that in a skirt!

Re: Women's new running Fashion

I saw in a semi-recent issue of Triathlete magazine, one of the elite women triathletes has started a running skirt company, and she actually competed in one of them.

I'm a guy, so my opinion doesn't count for much, but I do think they look cute... but any woman who is running usually looks more attractive to me anyhow...
