Re: Women's new running Fashion

they look wicked comfy, and it seems like aside from the style issue, functionally there hasn't been anything bad said about them, im definitely planning on buying one!

Re: Women's new running Fashion

I haven't read through all the responses, but am curious what all is said in FOUR pages of discussion about running skirts - but had to add my 2 cents. I thought they looked like a fashion overkill statement myself when I first saw them. The look started to grow on me and I began thinking "well, they are kinda cute" - I know a few ladies that run in them and love them for the comfort factor primarily. So, I gave it a whirl and bought a Triks skirt recently. I must say it is by far the most comfortable thing I've run in. hands down!  The waist band is comfortable and stays put, no bunching or riding up of the shorts. I love my running skirt!

eta: slowasmolassesinwinter: That's the one I bought, the marathon girl. I didn't experience some of the problems with the built in shorts that you did, but everyone is built different. I am about a size 8, so the medium is what I got as well. The only complaint I had was the bike shorts do ride up slightly when I first start running, but once my skin temp warms up or gets a bit sweaty, then I just tug them back down and they stay put. Overall, I really like my marathon girl and am glad I bought it. As money permits, I might get the "runningskirts" brand so I have two different ones to compare.

eta again: I just double checked and mine is the "gymgirl" I believe. It has the built-in compression shorts - not the built-in spanky's.

Re: Women's new running Fashion

They are absolutely awesome!!!!  I never race without my skirt (unless it is below 35 degrees!) and I definitely plan on wearing one to Boston, weather permitting.

With that said, I have tried many. Skirt Sports's gym girl is by far my favorite. It has compression shorts underneath that do not ride at all. They are very comfy and much less chance of chafing than having shorts bunching up b/w your legs. Granted, I always opt for Body Glide just in case on the long run...but to those that think skirts would chafe - you are wrong.

I don't think I could run in one of the skirts that just has the spankies (i.e. panties) built in. They say the skirts don't flip up, but when you are sprinting in to a finish, I'm sure people would see way too much of me.

Bottom line - try one before you hate it. Very comfortable and I have yet to go to a race and not get compliments on it. Go to www.skirtsports.com.[/URL" target="_blank">  They are pricey, but if you do the convert to skirt program, you get 15% off.  Plus, despite the price tag, they are one of my top 5 running gear items (behind shoes, running cap and garmin only).  If you are lucky, you may find one on Ebay.  I got a brand new gym girl off e-bay for $6!

To each their own... I have nothing against them on somebody else, but personally I wouldn't be caught dead in one...just not my style.

HGaha it was quite fun to see how the opinion on these skirts changed from last year here in this post.

Looks like there is no woman alive who can resist the overpowering effects of fashion.

About these skirts, I´m a guy and I have to say this: if you want atention, get one. If you dont want atention, dont.

One vote for running skirts - just another guy's opinion.

Re: Women's new running Fashion

I'm really surprised at the negativity at the beginning of this thread.  Is it really so offensive to see someone run in a running skirt?

They don't make you a girly girl, and it doesn't mean you have to run in full make-up and an updo.

I wear my skirt make-up-free, with a regular tshirt and sweaty ponytail, and blow snot rockets on the side of the road when I have to.

I never gave much thought to what other runners might be thinking about me, but I'm really disappointed to know that some of you are thinking, "You can't run in that," or that I'm not serious about this sport.

Get over yourselves.

Running in a running skirt makes you a jogger.

Re: Women's new running Fashion

There were lots of skirts at the Boston Marathon this year. All those joggers were fast enough to qualify and not afraid to look good at the same time.

Re: Women's new running Fashion

Ok, after reading most of this thread I went out and bought one at Sports Authority. The skirt had the built in compression. Here's my take:

Looks: Great, loved the way it looked. Feminine and youthful.

Use: Ouch. The first 30 minutes or so it was fine. After that the compression shorts rode up and the inside of my thighs chafed where they never chafe when I wear shorts.

I'm sticking to shorts.

Re: Women's new running Fashion

I was curious, so tried on a running skirt at a race expo--ACK!! The skirt showed EVERY bulge I had and/or ever had. Maybe it depends on the skirt, but the one I tried on definitely wasn't flattering. (And I'm not overweight.) The experience didn't make me want to try on more, as I have plenty of running shorts that serve me just fine.

I see a lot of women running in skirts now, and I don't take skirt wearers less seriously as runners, especially not after I've had my shorts-clad bod beaten by a number of skirt wearers!  I just think the only "wrong" thing to wear running is something you're not comfortable in (although I suppose one does have to wear some clothes regardless of comfort, just to avoid arrest for indecent exposure, ha!). If you dig skirts and like how you feel/look in them, go for them!

I've seen ones I like on other people, and maybe I'll eventually try on a few more once they hit the discount stores, but I agree w/ the poster who said that $60 is pretty steep for an experiment.

Re: Women's new running Fashion

I received this skirt right before this race last weekend and it was so cute and so comfortable.  I got it from runningskirts.com.  Pricey -- but well worth it as I paired it with a special tank that I wear to raise money for a charity.

Re: Women's new running Fashion

Women cant resist fashion.

At the start they all make fun of that "poor weird girl wearing skirts", but after a while they cant endure the cuteness.

If you want to experiment with a good quality running skirt and save some money from the normal sticker shock price, then here's a good deal for ya:
