wetsuit too big?

I’m wondering how much affect my too-big wetsuit actually has on my swimming. I just got started doing triathlons a few months ago and I wasn’t sure if I would keep up with it. So I considered myself lucky to have a friend who had done an Iron Man a few years ago and still had her wetsuit that she was willing to sell to me for only $75. It’s probably only 1 size too big so it fits pretty tight (especially around the neck! ack!), but there are small folds in the shoulders and hips. What really makes me wonder about it is when I take it off, a LOT of water pours out of the legs. Is that normal? When I’m swimming sometimes it feels like there is a lot of water built up in the lower legs of the wetsuit. Again, I don’t know if that’s normal or if it’s due to the suit being too big. Now that I’m still wanting to enter a few tri events here and there I’m wondering if I’m okay with the wetsuit I have or if I should bite the bullet and buy one the right size?
I am no expert -I've done 2 tri's this summer and one was in a pool! I got my wetsuit from Promotion and love it. Its a sleeveless style and I was worried mine was too loose in the chest area cause there was a gap in the underarm area. I took it to a local multi-sport store and had them check it on me. They felt it was a good fit so I swam in it and had no water build up inside like you are describing. If you have a local scuba or multi-sport store you may wish to call them or go in with your suit and get some expert advice but it does sound like the ankles maybe too loose which is allowing water to go up your legs.

You will always have some water inside the suit, but by no means a lit of water. Nothing should pour out!
