Mine, I stole from a runner, who wrote a fabulous and inspirational running book... I forgot his name!
"Keep Pushing, Always!"
Keep Pushing, Always.
"YES YOU CAN!" A substitute for my strength training class said that as we got to the 8th rep for every exercise, and since then it has become my mantra through all of my workouts (and in life too)! I've surprised myself at how much I have accomplished with just those three little words!
My running motto is, "I run for a cause". When people ask what my cause is, I say, "A'cause I likes being able to see my feets without having to look in a mirror".
For 1/2 and full marathons and the longer training runs I go with Isaiah 41:10, "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." and Hebrews 12:1, "...let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us...". Kicks in pretty solid about miles 10 and 18.
On hills and tempos my motto is, "Just shut the f*** up and go" (obviously NOT the same mindset for readings from Hebrews and Isaiah), and when I do my easy runs, I think about running with my son who just got out of the Marine Corps and think, "I can still take you, boy". He's faster, stronger and more agile than me but I can still outleg him. I don't know what feels better: knowing that I can still do it, or knowing how much it buggers him that I can still do it. :^)
"If you do not try, you cannot fail or succeed... "
but when people think I am crazy for being a runner... my favorite response is:
"I run for Sanity and Vanity! " plus I just like it!
The #5 rule of bicycling is Harden The F**k Up (www.velominati.com/blog/the-rules). I now use it as a motto for anything I do, running, biking, yoga, work.
Also: "It never gets easier, you just go faster.
Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.
