Pain on the top of my foot, how?

So last Saturday I ran about 6 miles, I normally do 3-4 about 3-5 times per week.  On Sunday the top of left foot was sore(bruised feeling), and my foot looked and felt swollen.  I did not run until Thursday.  Foot is still sore, have some tingling like feeling sometimes on top.  I know, I porbably should lay off for a week or two.  I had a goal to do 70 miles this month and I have about 10 to go.  Any idea what I did?

Barefoot runners see this kind of injury fairly regularly if they overdo it.  We call it TOFP (top of foot pain, creatively enough).  Rest, ice, Ibuprofen, massage, more rest, heat after a couple days.  You should mend, and take it easy!

I'm interested to see what else folks have to say.

I have the same thing! I switched to Kinvaras two weeks ago and the pain started a week ago. They aren't barefoot shoes, but they are quite a bit thinner than I'm used to. I can't figure out what's causing it. There is no bruising or swelling. It just feels bruised like I dropped something on it. I've rested (2 days) and iced after each run. I put some KT tape on it yesterday. It doesn't get worse, but it doesn't get better either.

Re: Pain on the top of my foot, how?

Sounds familiar. I started running in May and have upped my mileage to around 4.5 - 6.2 miles per run at 3-4 days per week.  Over the past couple weeks pain gradually increased on the top of my right foot, behind the last two toes. It is a burning or tingling (if I'm lucky) sensation that comes and goes when running, walking, or even just resting sometimes. Ice seemed to make it worse, but heat from a microwaved rice bag felt good, although the relief was temporary and didn't completely eliminate the discomfort. Today is day 5 since my last run on Monday and the first day my foot has felt noticeably better. I don't plan to try running on it for another couple days at least. Fortunately the exercise bike doesn't seem to aggrevate it.

I found this interesting, so I googled around.. this gives a pretty good explanation with good diagram of the foot
