    Hello all,

Woody nice to hear from you. Your workload must be huge.
Tom lol. You give good advice wrapped with a lot of humor.
Shell your doing well. Keep it up. !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!
LL I'm glad to see your rosy perspective has returned. I know how frustrating those lungs can be, but your doing great. Your consistant and that's a good thing.

I crosstrained today, but no time for weights. I won't swim tonight as it's the last Gilmore Girls. I love that show. I haven't swum in a while. Tomorrow I will swim. I might even do some laundry in the next few days. !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/tongue.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/tongue.gif|border=0!

    Have a good day all.

    hi everybody!

not going to try to catch up, just will say I think you all are doing great. (couldn't quite put greta in there)

I started out w/the same response as Linda... & after skimming the thread am trying to put in some positives.  I guess I think I took an opportunity...the ability to run a little again even while still having chest symptoms, & then blew it.  for a while I did well & watched the speed increase (I'm talking in the 3.4-3.9 range) while my heart rate stayed in the safe MAF range.  Then I increased my activity, I noticed it started going the other way... which is bad.  never really got myself under control despite efforts to adjust. I think I've blown the last couple of months.  e.g.  Sunday I ran 4.63 miles, + w/u & c/d. (another mile?)  had a cold & a hurt foot, but it took 69 minutes. (just the running part)  Average hr was 150.  I do think that is a pretty decent effort,  but how can I be in that bad of shape? Has all this been a waste?

OK. What I want to accomplish is to figure out how to train smart. Sometimes I think I should go back & do one of the programs, but that would drive me stark raving mad (short trip), & I don't know if that's what it would take anyway. Feels like I've built a house with a shaky foundation.

    I want a better speed/heart rate ratio.

I did more or less MAF from March through, I guess mid April. Maybe a little earlier than that I pulled the plug on the hrm beeper. I suspect the mileage wasn't high enough to do any good.

A few things to change I am already aware of, & am working on those. other than that, I'm lost. reading a couple of really good books though.

come on Shell, no tie-dyes? former radical here !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!

in one book (using Alexander technique) - the author says when things weren't going too well he'd force, push, seek a bigger hammer. I liked that idea.. of course, to remind us that a bigger hammer is not what we need. (still gonna go get one)

    thanks
hope all is well with all of you

    Hello all,
Tie-dye wearers are not of the dark side. Flowerpower, remember, is very bright.

Debbie I wouldn't worry about not being at where you think you should be. Things improve gradually and you probably have improved alot. It just isn't noticed due to how gradual it was. It has taken me a long time to see any big improvement. I've been running about 3 years this time, and I've only noticed an improvement in speed in the past 6 months. I was always trying to go for distance and speed just wasn't there. Trust me overall you have improved.

Went out for a 3 miler today. It was supposed to be a speed workout, but that wouldn't be how I described it. I ran a bit faster, randomly, during the middle mile. Not great, but I'm hopeful that my lungs will improve soon and the rest of the body will follow.

    Have a good day all.

Dang laundry!! Of course an alternative would get expensive and DH just might decide that he's had enough. He usually gives me a gift card to my running store and therefore buys my sneaks. Which reminds me, I'll soon be needing a new pair. As long as I'm on this thread, I really want an Ipod. I'm thinking of breaking down and buying one. This sport can be so expensive. Of course I'd probably want the Ipod even if I didn't run. Toys, toys, toys and I thought boys/men were bad. I'm definately worse than dh. Tom you strike me as someone who doesn't have any gadgets on your run.

    Re: looking for WASSARD/WOODY 116........Vol, 6

Thanks Tom, & Patty.   It really is good to hear that.  I do recognize there's been progress of some sort..  I remember once very late Feb. posting a 1/2 mile run.  That was due to - whatever it was that was going on with my heart, but was all I could do.  I do think being able to go at a hr of 150 for over an hour is an accomplishment. (covering more than 10' would've been nice)   So I guess that's my positive.  (phew!)  But I also think it's true that if I would have been more patient, & not just done as much as I could each time,  I would be  in better shape aerobically than I am.  And actually, I still don't know what was really wrong with me.  So I guess I should be nice to said heart.  Live & Learn.    !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|border=0!

Anyway, I really did think my exercise had been wasted, you made me feel a lot better. "Tough Runs Count Double" I like that. science is our friend.

gonna try base training again. what do you think of the karvonen method?

    Shell, you're radically anti-radical.   !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/wink.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/wink.gif|border=0!

tw, I'll send info later on 'the method'. still figuring it out myself. this am 42 min. 14.39 pace, 2.88 miles. ahr 142. 1 mile walking & some callanetics.

now for the important stuff...  if you smear pnutbutter on the roof of maggies mouth she will lick for about 7 years.  my dad used to do it to our dog, poor thing, he'd walk slowly across the kitchen to get it, licking ahead of time.

however, to get her into the car, do you have a kong? something like that, w/peanutbutter (not too much) in the back of it, or just treats stuffed in it, or cream cheese works great, will get most any dog any where.

my poor golden had to go to the vet a lot last summer, 85 lb., couldn't get into the car (suv) anymore so I had to pick her up.  ack.

dg love that about shell being so radically anti-radical!! Sounds to be like that was a good workout.

    Re: looking for WASSARD/WOODY 116........Vol, 6

Ok so I'm officially frustrated beyond belief!!!  That little easy TM run created more yellow gunk...    same thing as last time I did the treadmill.. the run Saturday made me breathe better & I actually forgot a couple of doses of meds & was fine.    Common factor, treadmill... so maybe its housedust?

so.. I'm am thinking about how to get my runs in outside now.. and also that i need to cut back to 1 to 2 runs a week tops, until this gets under control. So, one on the weekend & one time during the week.. it is light very early & late, so maybe I can get up early one day a week & go run?

More frustration - my dad is back in the hospital, hemoglobin low, bloodsugar high, infection again (maybe staph) & yes in the original foot again...
