In fact, if it weren't for runners, you wonder how many of these crimes would ever get solved. Better lace 'em up. Because someone, somewhere is missing. So do your civic duty.

I just spent most of the thread wondering what SF was. Then finally someone said stress fracture. I had one in my foot once. It was gradual. It only hurt went I ran or walked.

Ty, I hope that is not it, that sucks.

I slept like poo so I am a little tired.

I have a ton of stuff going on. I feel swamped and stuff.

I didn't see her around yesterday except for one quick post. If you see the end of Wed thread that might be part of it.

Re: Running Moms and Dads, FRIDAY!

Hi everyone! Could you who are experienced give me some input on this, please? Thanks in advance.

As you know, I've been MAFing religiously since the first of June. I'm scheduled to conclude the MAF-alone portion of my training August 26, then begin adding one day of speed work to my training. I'm thinking I'll set my HRM to about MAF10 or MAF15 for my regular runs at that point.

All this is in preparation for the Baltimore HM on October 13. I'd like to have some sort of a 'training race' before that, preferably of a shorter distance (10K - 10 miler) to assess where my speed is after the months of MAFing.

Unfortunately, I'm not finding any of those races in driving distance for me. What I did find is a small HM on September 8, with a 3-hour time limit. Whaddya think? Could I do this race, considering it my training run for the day?

(I'm scheduled to run 12 miles that day, anyway.)

well, I am not exactly as experienced as some, but I'll throw in my 2cents.  I think you are capable of running the Sept. 8 HM, but I don't think it would give you the feedback you are looking for.  From what I am reading in your post, you are hoping to see that your pace hasn't suffered by running slow.  You have always seemed like a smart runner to me and therefore, I think you would be conservative on pace (at that distance) to avoid injury on a training run.  Is this making any sense?  I think that you would be better off to plan a shorter racemaybe even a virtual RM and RD 10K or something where the risk of injury is less and the recovery time is shorter.  Honestly, I think that once you start throwing in speedwork soon you will see that you are quite capable of running faster than you expect.  I do understand what you are looking for, thoughthe mental aspect and confidence in your training plays a big part in having a good race.

Re: Running Moms and Dads, FRIDAY!

My appt is in 1 hour.

I bought a new book. "The extra mile", by Pam Reed. She is a damn tough ultrarunner, who won Badwater several times. Actually she was the only woman to place first overall so far (well, watch out for TY in a few years       mauhauahauhauhau) .
She balances being a mom of 3, stepmother of 2, an ultrarunner and a race director.
I only read the 2 first chapters so far, but I like her style. Very light and involving reading.

I had lunch out with DH and my stomach feels like I swallowed a brick with tarp sauce. I think it's because I am anxious.

I think it's perfectly fine... just make sure you don't exert yourself too much in speed.
I am haing exactly the same problem. I have no tune ups before MCM... well, I guess now that is not my biggest problem, anyways... but I know what you mean...

I would do the HM. Again, without pushing, just getting close to your expected goal race pace.

Re: Running Moms and Dads, FRIDAY!

Ty, I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. I hope you get good news and good advice on how to fix this problem.  We love you.

I decided to skip out of the afternoon portion of my meeting. It's all about reading and literacy, and I am the math specialist. While it's been interesting, I have too much to do in my office to sit in an interesting but not useful training.

I got very dizzy and nauseous this morning - realized that I had not had ANY water today. Drank too much coffee I guess. I drank a bottle and ate lunch and feel SOOOOO much better.

    Gotta go get to work!
