W7D3 done on my 37th birthday...I guess that is fitting!  It felt good, but I had to do it on the treadmill again which I didn't care for.  The time goes by so slowly.  I upped my pace this time and did 2.63 miles in 25 minutes.

Dave - Thanks for the input on Fartlek's training.  I don't know that I will do B210K right now either.  I want to work on my technique and getting my pace up....doing more mileage in the same amount of time.  I would also like to be able to run about 5 miles at an 8 - 8:30 minute/mile pace.  I know that will take quite some time...but I will keep at it.  Today I am more fit than I was yesterday!

W8D1 coming on Monday!  Very excited!  Have a good weekend everyone!

I did W8D1 today since I have to get out the door earlier tomorrow.  Wow, was it ever tough for me!  I did it this afternoon when it was 80 out.  I was fine and keeping a good pace until about halfway through. I wanted to really quit, but I kept plugging along.  I did the entire 28 min and only came up slightly short of the 2.75 miles.  Never again in the afternoon heat!  I've really come to enjoy the early mornings better.  Hopefully I will do better as the week progresses.

Hope everyone has a great W8D1 run!

W8D1 done today.  Overall good, with another slight improvement in my pace.  I am really enjoying the RunKeeper app on my phone because I can come home and look online at my stats and so forth and basically have a little mini celebration.  It's still a struggle at times, but when it's over you can't help but feel proud.

Happy Birthday Ryan!  I remember 37 - barely.  :-)  I'm hitting 45 in January.  Oye...

Off to Oregon tomorrow so will be running in an unknown area, but there should be trails and so forth.  Regardless, it will give me something to do in the morning on Tuesday besides sleep in..................wait....... :-)

Well, Week 8 is here - Have a good one everyone!

Hi everyone. I did W8D1 today.  Since last week, I've just been running 5K because I don't know where there 2.5 and 2.75 pionts are on my run   It's been fine and I feel great.  I'm so slow tho.  I lost my watch, so had no idea how long I was taking.  This morning I realized it took me over 41 minutes to do 5K -- that's over 13 min per mile.  I'll be happy when I can do 5K in under 30.  I'm not ready for any fartleks yet, as I'm still acclimating to the distance.  Maybe in a few weeks.

I love running in the cold, tho!  It's been anywhere from the 20's to the 40's in the past few weeks.

    Have a great day, everyone!

W8D1 done today!  Had to slow the pace down a little bit to be sure of my footing.  A lot of the roads and sidewalks had snow/ice on them so I didn't want to slip and risk injury.  I still kept my pace at under 11 minutes/mile though so I guess that is good.  I was feeling it toward the end...I think 2 runs in a row on the treadmill last week hurt me when it came to the two big hills that I have at the beginning of my run.  Still completed the whole 28 minutes though!

Good luck on your next run everyone!

Okay, so if any of you make it out to Colorado then give me a holler!  I want to do the Manitou Incline.  See link below.  I have many friends that do it often and I have heard it is a great workout.  Climb is 2000 vertical feet over a distance of 1 mile.  You climb from approximately 6500 feet to 8500 feet.  They said that elite athletes can do it in under 20 minutes, locals who are in great shape in the 30 minute range and that most people complete it in 40 - 50 minutes.  If you have never done it or are coming from lower elevations they say to expect a time of 1 hour or more.  Then you have to walk back down Barr Trail which is approximately a 2.5 mile hike back down.  Sounds brutal...but it is my goal when the weather warms up again.  A friend of a friend has run from bottom to top in 19 minutes.  CRAZY!

It used to be a cable car tourist attraction here.  I remember visiting it when I was a kid.  That has since shut down but the trail remains.

I know this has nothing to do with C25K but I know all of you best on this forum so far so I thought I would share!

    Check it out!

Ryan, Thanks for sharing the link on the Manitou Incline. That looks tough to do!  Is is near Colorado Springs? I've been out there MANY years ago. You will have to do the hike for us all and tell us how it is!:)  Can't imagine people doing that in under 20 minutes up and back!

Hey Gang! Just wanted to post a sign off.  I'm going strong - but fell behind a few weeks ago.  I just finished W4 and feel great! Even invested in some new shoes since my committment seems strong.  But, since I've fallen a few weeks behind you all, I'm going to switch to another thread.

One final note on the foot landing issue you've been discussing...I was actually a competitive runner in my teens and twenties and can offer some advice.  Don't overthink your form.  It probably isn't what you think it is.  My coach used to video tape us and we would review the tape in slow motion.  My form and foot fall were nothing like I imagined while I was actually running.  You can video record or have a shoe professional look at the wear on an older pair of shoes to get a good assessment.  Until then, I would just run how you feel most comfortable.

    Peace!

Kat2run - If I have heard correctly...I think that the 20 minute timeframe is just to get to the top and that it does not include the hike/run down.  I was not clear about that in my post.  So, all those times I posted are only going from the bottom up to the top.  I don't think people really track their hike back down for the whole loop.  Anyway, I will let people know when I do it...but it may be several weeks!

Bayopa - Thanks for the update and keep up the good work.  Best of luck on finishing!

bayopa, Glad you are still going and staying strong!

Ryan, that makes more sense...20 minutes just to the top.  It looks tough!

I did W8D2 today.  What a difference running in the morning makes compared to my afternoon run in the heat the other day!  I did the 28 min. with no problems, but I was still short of the 2.75 miles.  I will have to pick up my pace on D3.  I felt strong and felt like I could have gone on though.

Hope everyone is having a great week of running!

    Hey guys :-)

Back from Oregon, where I did W8D2 yesterday.  I started off at a pretty good pace, but then fizzled through the rest of the run.  I ended up at a pace at least 30 seconds/mile lower than my previous run, and worse than at least my last 4-5 runs.  It didn't dawn on me until the drive home today that I usually run at about 50 or so feet above sea level, but where we were was at 3500-4000 feet above sea level.  Could that have made a difference? I'm assuming so, but not sure.  Anyhow, looking forward to tomorrow and W8D3 back at the lower elevation!

Is anyone signed up for a 5K yet?  I'm down for one on the 17th (nervous!) but hadn't heard from anyone else yet.

    Have a great week everyone!

    -Dave

And W8D3 is done.  My pace was only a little better than my last run, but I managed to do 3.13 miles today.  Again, I have to say that it's been really wierd to have been for 8 full weeks in Seattle and not once have I gotten rained out.  Is there no mercy??? lol  Ok, I'm actually glad that it's been great weather. I just hope it isn't saving it all up for the 5K

W8D2 is done!  I kept a 10 minute/mile pace outside today for the first two miles which had two fairly long hills. However, after the second big hill there is a downhill run for a ways so I was able to pick up my pace again.  I haven't tracked the last .8 mile because I don't have a good marker for it.  I need to get in the car and drive it tonight on my way to work in order to calculate my true distance and pace over the 28 minutes.  Today's run felt good!

Dave - Awesome job!  Did you do 3.13 miles in the 28 minutes or did you just keep running until you hit the 3.1 mile mark?  Either way is excellent in W8!

Keep it up everyone...a little over one week (or less) for us!  Very excited to complete it and then keep it going!

W8D3 done!  My pace was much better today.  I ran past the 2.75 mark before the 28 minutes!  Of course when I had the 1 minute warning, I booked it.  I will have to figure out how much further I ran.

I can't believe we are moving on to W9!  Great job everyone!

W8D3 done today!  Had an interesting run today....I got to run backwards for several hundred feet.  Mind you, this was not by MY choice, but rather by the BOBCAT'S choice that I ran into about 50 feet ahead of me when I rounded the corner at the bottom of my street!  He promptly took the: "I'm going to pounce on you when you run by me!" position right next to the sidewalk.

Needless to say I stopped dead in my tracks, kept my eyes on him and proceeded to run slowly backwards while facing him to make sure he did not give chase.  He stayed put which was nice.  He was a pretty large bobcat (not mountain lion), don't know if he could have killed me or not, but it would not have been a fun fight!

So, I completed the 28 minutes, but I had to take a completely different route so I have no idea what my mileage was.

On to week 9!  Keep up the good work everyone and run SAFELY.  Stay aware of your surroundings!
