Re: Maine Runners

Well I guess we better get our running in or buy a canoe one or the other.
Maybe it will clear up enough for Mary's run on Sunday.
Anyone here going to run that on Sunday?/

Yes there are two running stores that just open the one on forest ave. and one in Gorham.

Curly i'm thinking about it but was wondering if anyone went last year and how did it work out?

How is your running going?

Hey where in Gorham and where on Forest Ave are these stores located? I would love to check them out.

I'm probably not going to be doing the track stuff this year. I am concentrating more on my distance running. As I've noted in a few other posts I am giving serious consideration to running an Ultra this fall to celebrate my 50th birthday.

I will continue to do a bunch of the 5 & 10 Ks along with some other races and the Maine Marathon.

After Boston next Monday I already have the Portland Sea Dogs race schedule that was fun last year I really enjoyed it, I have also registered for the B2B and will be doing Doc Tigers 3 miler and many more. Hope to see you guys around at some of these races.

Re: Maine Runners

Bob - the new running store in Gorham is located off Narragansett (sp?) Street or Route 202/4.  Not sure which way you'll be heading, but its less than 1 mile from downtown Gorham.

Re: Maine Runners

Thanks Elufa, I know right where that is (I actually lived in Gorham while in Junior High School).  Two brother-in-laws still live in Gorham so I will be checking it out real soon.

Thanks again.

Re: Maine Runners

Hey Bob that's right Boston is just around the corner are you ready for it?
Let's hope it's better then it was last year I know a number of people that it took it's toll! What was it 84 or something one of the warmest days of the year if i remember right!

That running store in Gorham is almost before you get to the old race track heading south out of Gorham!

I've found another job inside the company and will be staying with the track team. But the transition has been difficult and i'm having a hard time getting back into training after the long lay off.

Oh well good luck at Boston!!!! Let know how it goes!

Re: Maine Runners

Hey Bob, good luck in Boston next weekend. Let us know how you make out. How was Vegas?

How is everyone doing with their running now that the weather is improving. It feels great to be out there in shorts again. It also feels great to be able to increase my mileage again now that the ankle is getting better. I had to shut it down completely for about a week and a half and then slowly started back after it felt good again. This week I got in 40 miles. I am now repeating two days of running followed by a day of rest (well, I hit the weights at the gym and the stationary bike on off days) just so I don't put too much stress on the ankle. Today I did my first long run in over a month, 16 miles at about 9 min pace. But my times in my 5 mile tempo runs are dropping again and back under 7 min pacing. Once I am sure that the ankle is 100% I will start some hill training and hitting the track again for some speed work. I'm trying to get my 5K time to under 20 min by early June.

Well, good luck all on your running and enjoy the weather out there!

Re: Maine Runners

Hey guys, Vegas was great as always and I even came home a winner, well $140. richer so I guess that's a winner, sure beats losing!

I agree that it sure is great to be able to run outside again, and days like today WOW you just can't beat New England in the spring, summer and fall!

I am prepared as I'll ever be for Boston and will be shooting for a 3:30 although I think all I need to BQ for next year is a 3:35. If I can get a BQ this year at least I can move way up in the corrals and get a better starting point. That is my only real concern this year (as long as the weather cooperates). I will be starting way back in the pack and will have 20,000 plus or minur runners in front of me. So I am not sure if a 3:30 is realistic at this point or not. Either way I am looking to take it all in and enjoy it regardless. The early crowds should at least keep me from going out too fast!

I'll post my results shortly after the rest and look forward to Marathon Monday!

Hey Bob, congrats, I was following your progress off and on during the day over on the Boomers thread, they did a nice job updating over there. Nice time considering the warm weather. Looks like you nailed it. Looking forward to reading your race report.

Hello, all.

Please note that a new thread needs to be started. You can still see this one via searching the archives. It lives in "Best of the Clubhouse." The search function is in the yellow area above the replies.
