IDEAS FOR A 5K RUN GIFT BAG

MY BUSINESS IS SPONSORING A 5K RUN IN SEPTEMBER, AND I AM LOOKING FOR SUGGETIONS ON WHAT TYPES OF ITEMS RUNNERS HAVE ENJOYED RECEIVING IN SUCH A BAG. THESE WOULD BE ITEMS THAT WE CAN PUT OUR BUSINESS NAME ON AS A PROMOTIONAL ITEM. WATER BOTTLES ARE ALREADY TAKEN.

I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ANYONE'S SUGGESTIONS.

THANKS!

T-shirts, stickers, maybe the gift bag itself could be like a 'bum bag' (USA people call them a fanny pack? whatever - they go around your waist and have a small compartment to carry stuff in.)

By now, some promotional marketing company must make a fridge magnet in the shape of a running shoe...put the event (e.g. "North Lompoc 5k") along with your business name on it and runners will be seeing it on their fridge for years to come.

Re: IDEAS FOR A 5K RUN GIFT BAG
I got a "keyboard calendar" at a race recently...it sticks on to the top of your keyboard and is approximately 15 inches wide by 1.5 inches high. It's been right here in front of my face since January and has the name of the sponsoring organization on it. It has a calendar for the whole year, which comes in handy a lot. Way better than a mouse pad, and almost everybody has a computer. They must be pretty inexpensive as well.

Re: IDEAS FOR A 5K RUN GIFT BAG
I love pens, sticky note pads, magnets. I also think it would be fun to get little packets of gu, power bars, protein powders, etc... A great way to try new products. Oh, perhaps little anklet socks with the logo on them? I guess it might help if we sort of knew what kind of budget you're looking at. I could think of some really great items, but I bet they're more than you're looking to spend.

Re: IDEAS FOR A 5K RUN GIFT BAG
At the Frostebite 5 Miler in February (Ambler, PA) I received a pair of excellent running socks from the running store that was one of the race's sponsors. It had their logo and telephone number on them. I later went to the store to buy another pair. Probably the best gift I've ever received.

Re: IDEAS FOR A 5K RUN GIFT BAG
I've never actually seen one of these but thought that it might be a good idea and be in a comparable price range to water bottles -- probably even cheaper:

How about large plastic cups with proportions for smoothies printed on the sides? (Much like the glasses you see with measurements for mixed drinks.) This would work well for measuring out what goes into the smoothies, pour the contents into the blender and once blended, pour back into the cup, very useful. Many runners would be likely to use them daily. You could have 3 or 4 different smoothie "recipes" along the sides and of course your company's logo on there. I'd bet that most runners would be pleasantly surprised to find something a little bit different in their gift bags. Many of us drink smoothies and even if we don't we can use the cups anyway.

(And if you plan to sponsor the race annually, you can always just use different colors and print different "recipes" each year.)

How about a stop watch? They come in all kinds of price ranges ( I got one for $4) and you could put your logo on the lanyard and/or the back of the stop watch. What about a hat? Pretty reasonably priced in bulk. How about runner's ids (the kind that go on shoes)?
