Sounds about right.  You definitely want to make sure that last long run and especially those last couple of speed workouts are good efforts but not too hard.  You will not gain anything for your race day as far as becoming faster with a 10 day out speed session.  It's more for confidence and to keep the legs turning than anything else.  Remember you have already prepared yourself in the training weeks prior and it's all about storing up confidence, and energy for race day.  I like to start visualizing my race, the course, where I plan to push and make moves and so on starting a week before the race.  If you know the course and you've run it in your mind a dozen times that mental imagery will go a long way to help when your out there giving your all on race day.  running is just as much breaking those mental barriers as it is the physical ones...  In hindsight* we are all different and respond uniquely to different training methods.  Either way I'm sure you'll do great!

Thank You!! We actually just bought a house in North Fort Worth area (Keller). So we will be there in a couple of weeks. Our subdivision has "trails." I am used to many local parks with lots of trees for shade. So this will be different! I am thinking about doing the HM in Fort Worth in Feb...

That being said, I didn't have the best New Year's Day run. I was out on a 6-miler when I had a hispanic kid point some sort of gun at me and "click" went the trigger. I have no idea if it was a real gun or a toy, but it was quite different than what I'm used to. I somehow ignored the kids (there were two other kids with him, and they were walking a dog) and kept right on going.

The section 8 apartments in the area are drawing some bad characters to the area. I just try to be more alert when I'm running, especially at dusk. In 15 years of living in Park Glen, that's the first bad incident that I've had like that.

All I know is that it is a Keller address but in the city of Ft. Worth- a new subdivision. I don't know enough about the area yet, but I know it is not called Park Glen.

That is terrible!! Good thing nothing bad hapenned. I am a little paranoid about getting accustomed to the new area, as I am afraid of loose dogs etc.

You're probably in Woodland Springs. That's about 3-4 miles north of where I live. That's a pretty nice area.

Actually it is called Woodland Springs, you are right. All morning I have been online in forums for our neighborhood. There have been some cars stolen recently and stolen items from garages. People leaving cars running in the am and their garages open. So I started getting worried it is not a nice area. But it seems to be fairly benign. Would you say that the North area has this kind of crime, but overall is safe? We have lived in Houston- but now are in Memphis. It was like shooting in the dark looking at subdivisions there. It seemed like a pretty safe area. Thanks for your help.

The type of crime you're describing is pretty much all we get around here. People look for an opportunity, and the open garage door provides it for them. That goes for my neighborhood as well. Every month, the local police officer puts a reminder in the newsletter about closing garage doors.

If you can keep your garage door closed when you're not in it, you should enjoy the neighborhood. In our area, there have only been two reports of crimes against people that I'm aware of. Both happened after dark when no one is supposed to be there anyway.

I spent several weeks working in Memphis. Memphis is a lot rougher.
