No Ray, she hasn't told me yet. She may not remember your name. But, if you're playing for our HS choir, I'll be there watching Emily, so I will definitely look forward to seeing you.
The half went great Ray! If I can sort my thoughts out, I'll do a race report later, but for now I'll just give you the highlights. My goal was 1:30:00 and I finished in 1:25:39, so obviously, I am tickled about that. The Houston course is flat with the exception of one short hill somewhere between mile three and five, I think. Crowd support was great, even in the less than desirable neighborhoods. Split times were called clearly at every mile. The weather was perfect. I didn't feel any pain or discomfort until about mile nine. Then I felt blisters starting to form on that bone behind my big toe. But it wasn't anything that couldn't be ran through. When I finished, I saw that I had actually bled through my shoe. I told my son that was my battle scar. Both feet are fine today, I am just sore all over.
As for Houston, I don't have anything nice to say about that town. The hotel service (downtown Courtyard Marriott) was awful. Couldn't find a "good" part of town. People, for the most part, were cold and unfriendly-except for anyone involved in the race-they were all great! We did drive down to Galveston while we were there and toured a submarine and ship and went to the Aviation Hall of Fame. Also the Space Center. So it was a good trip. Left Houston at 10:30 AM on Sunday, and managed to miss any ice, but saw where that part of Texas had sustained quite a bit of flooding.
Here's my race stats....
36th female, out of 3,985 overall.
5th female, out of 700, in my age group.
4th female from Texas.
So...even though I did not place, I am still very satisfied with how things turn out, and happy that I finished my first half marathon!
