Re: Wed Apr 11 Boomer Runs

Record low of 26F at ACY this morning.  It was 30.4F, but with no wind, at 5:30am  during my 8 miler with 10x100 striders.  Finally felt somewhat recovered from Sat's 1/2.

Good job on the intervals Lou and Breger.

Healing vibes to Sheak

Enjoy your day everyone

Huzzah, Dale. Slowly is the only way back, however frustrating it can be. And thank you. Cheque's in the mail when I know where/how to send it ... ETA: I'll bring cash. !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!

Plan: 12 mins. slow, 4x1k @ 4:30 (2-min slow between), 12 mins. slow. (Total: 5.4 miles)

I wanted to do the first two without checking my watch until the beep. It seems that I don't have a feel for this pace, but I don' t think it's all bad.

4:17, 4:15, 4:25, 4:31

I can't believe the Beers get up that early and make do on that little sleep. On top of that, do the kind of fine running they do.

Good runs, all.

Guten Tag ~

~> Floated through an ambrosial 11-miler on the 11th. Longest lope of '07. Absotively poifect conditions: supernovic sunshine, ticklish breeze, temps in the low to mid 40s. If only this were going to be the case for next Monday. . . . .

Latest weather spaghetti, hot off the presses:

Interpretation:  Meganor'easter of epic proportions in full swing Monday morn in southern New England.  If this verifies , winds would be howling, sheets of rain would be pounding the coast, heavy wet snow would be blanketing inland areas.  Models have been consistently developing this solution, so I'm fairly confident that, alas, next Monday will be a stormy one.  It's the crucial details that still need to come into focus.  Timing could vary, intensity could be different, et cetera, ad infinitum.  Stay tuned for more updates from the Weather Desk. . . . .

Re: Wed Apr 11 Boomer Runs

PBJ, healing vibes going your way for your heel/AT.  RTB, it sounds like some progress.  Take care of yourself.  Welcome,  Chasing You.  Post often.  Meg, sorry to hear of your battle with a nasty cold.  sheak, that continuing arm pain sounds serious.  Best wishes on getting it resolved.  Holly, I'm glad to hear your husband got in a walk with you and without the shin splint problem.  Continuing shin splint discomfort would not be conducive to a desire to continue.  breger, sorry to hear the toe is still a problem.

Nice long runs for henrun (on Heartbreak Hill to celebrate 73rd birthday. Way to go Henry), SansSouci, Flying, pt (a couple), smpankowski (a couple including "Kong Zilla Hill"), runwun (a couple), PBJ, mrbill, PDR, robp, Dale (nice post injury run), and thunderbolter (longest lope of 07). Good job on the speedwork for GrayDave, bty, MarkGuy, Tall, Lab, Karl, WRFB, breger, jtv, and SansSouci.

This morning, it was in the low 30s with some wind. As I stepped out the door, the birds were singing. Walking to the neighbor's driveway while acquiring a GPS signal, I heard a wild turkey. The neighbor's yard had a couple of deer in it. As I started running and rounded the corner to head east, I had a pretty pink sky in front of me from the ready to rise sun. I plodded through 8 miles in about 1:17:30 for a 9:42 pace.

The snow that Sue mentioned is headed our way. About an hour ago, we talked to our son, halfway between us and Sue and it was snowing hard there. I feel that I can take a joke, but mother nature is overdoing it.

A good day and good runs for all.

TomS

Re: Wed Apr 11 Boomer Runs

Very sunny and upper 40s now. I ran yesterday and both days of the weekend so this morning was 65 minutes of Spinning. Kills me to be indoors.  Snow again tomorrow;  we should have adjusted the ski season by a month!

Hope Monday's weather turns out ok for those running. There is talk of rain  or snow here Sunday into Monday but we shall see. It is April in New England .

Re: Wed Apr 11 Boomer Runs

Thanks Tom.
I was planning on a rest day today but, with the approaching 'spring' storm I decided to take advantage of the relativley warm (mid 40's) weather and ran 7.5 miles along the Charles. Most of the runners were in shorts but, since my chest is still congested from lasr week's cold, I didn't strip down. It was a delightful run. There's a Chisnese mother and daughter who run in matching outfits (that the fashionistas would die for). We've passed each other for the last year or so and have become 'waving buddies'. It would be nice to meet them one day.
Like Robin, the adrenaline started pumping (and I'm not even running Boston) after I saw a group of Kenyan runners go by and we waved to each other. It's wonderful being in Boston at marathon time regardless of the weather-even though I expect to spend many soggy hours handing out fluids at water stop 21 on Monday.

ThunderBolter, that forecast is simply unacceptable. Is a collective B&B weather dance in order?

Re: Wed Apr 11 Boomer Runs

The Boston weather forecast is a bummer.  I like SS's looking on the bright side, though.  It's a pretty map.

We're having snow today, so it was more TM miles for me. 6 M @ 9:00 m/M, plus a mile CD.

Re: Wed Apr 11 Boomer Runs

What would we do if we couldn't talk about the weather?  Ditto the high winds and overcast skies ...we're due for a lot of rain or snow ...it's a toss of the coin.

Ran 10miles in 1:29:45 @8:59 (mp) @151 ave hr
Splits: W/U 9:40/9:08...MP 8:58/8:55 ... 8:41/8:29/8:46 ...MP 8:53 ...C/D 9:09/9:23

dtoce - nice 10 miler ...can't wait to see what you do when you're healthy.

ThunderBolter - I took climatology in university. Now I know why I never became a weatherman. Some map ...but very colorful (note American spelling).

Nice runs Boomers ...wish I was going to Boston!

I ran Harford '06 because Hartford '05 was dreadful weather -- figured it couldn't happen like that twice in a row (please, statisticians, whack me upside the head).

So Boston '08 is going to be perfect.  Chop chop, let's all get trained up, now!

Re: Wed Apr 11 Boomer Runs

Nice run, PJ.

I've been thinking about what I said to you about LR and fuel, and I thought I should try again.

I think I mentioned that on LRs, I try to get by as few Gu's as possible. Some days that means I don't need a one; others, one or two. Always with water, as mentioned before.

Of course, one might be concerned as to whether they'll be able to tolerate more than a couple on race day, but I think if you're all right when you have one or two, you'll be fine.

When I was, ahem, a child in the '80s, if we were offered anything at all, it was water.  Sometimes sweetened tea.  If we had trained properly -- and in my case, even if I hadn't (amazing what youth will forgive) -- we made it to the finish without a problem.  Of course, science is great and we should use it to our advantage, but I think we can get overwrought about these things.
