Sports drink before on hot day?

Hey all, I was wondering if drinking a sports drink up to an hour or so before a long run will help on a hot day? I tried holding it in
my hand last year during a long run and it got all fizzy and nasty, plus the only thing I crave during a hot run is water, but I know I need
the elec. because I often get 'salty' arms at the end of a long run during the summer.
Maybe look at a feul belt or camelbak where you can carry hydration with you in a more efficient manner for longer runs. In the alternative, try Nuun or some of the other tablets dissolved in water that might help. Of course, there are also electrolyte tablets, pills supplements and so on, but I would recommend really taking the time to see if any truly make a difference. Also, check out Vemma Thirst.
Hope this helps and best wishes.
Hydration has little impact on body temperature, if that is why you are asking. Wind and sweating are the major methods of cooling.

Drinking enough before a race is important all right. A hydrated body is a good running body. Just don't over due it...you don't need to load up before a race on fluids like you would a night before carb loading.
You need to stay hyderated!!! ![]()
I'd second the idea to try Nuun. It's amazing stuff. It will "bubble" while your run, but the taste is so light you can hardly notice it (at least I don't!). It can also help with cramping.
Cheers!

I've been happy with plain old gatorade.
