The event was superb. Only 2 years in existence but great. Course is hilly and challenging but a lot of fun and beautiful. Plenty of water stations and the volunteers were great. May not help you qualify if you are trying to get into the Boston Marathon, but if you are looking for a great race thru the gorgeous KY Horse farms it is great. I enjoyed the country roads. Great race and the director really cares.
Beautiful course, the scenery was a perfect distraction on the hills. Would love to see some helium balloons hanging high at the aid stations to have more time to get to them, also, the water tables spread out a little further, and a few more people handing out water, this way no one misses a critical opportunity to hydrate. Loved the ribbons, so did everyone who saw mine the entire day and night ! ![]()
Wonderful race with much appreciated build up the months leading up to it and it did not disappoint. Beautiful scenery, absolutely no traffic but be warned....it is hilly, especially the second half. I ran with a dog in a stroller and was warmly welcomed by all. The only thing I would like to see in the future is a wider starting chute or the chute roped off to allow a smoother start.
Overall great race... only suggestion would be to have the finish line and channel afterward more closed to spectators. After finishing you had to push through people meeting their runners and try to find the water stand.
I loved this race. Beautiful scenery with friendly people. Lots of hills, but they gave it an extra challenging element. My only complaint is that the start was incredibly crowded. Would have liked to start in waves to reduce congestion.
I liked the course, it was definitely challenging. I would have liked to have seen better organization at the beginning of the race in terms of pacers. There doesn't necessarily need to be someone pacing the entire race, but at the beginning it would have been nice if there was a volunteer or even just a sign that said "1:00-1:30" "1:30-2:00" etc. so that racers could organize themselves. I found that I spent a lot of time fighting through walkers the first mile that weren't in the back. But overall, I really did enjoy the course. Extremely challenging. Around mile 9 I could not help but smile at seeing another hill! This half and I have some unfinished business and I hope to make it back next year to tackle it again!!
I ran half the course as a relay team member. This was a nice feature for those of us just beginning. Very well-organized event. Beautiful, beautiful place to run. And yes, that S-curve hill was FIERCE! Yikes! But I made it. And, though I know I didn't earn one of those beautiful full-race medals, I WISH I HAD ONE!
The prettiest course I've ever ran, and perfect weather! (Although I know the race coordinators had nothing to do with the weather). All in all it was one of the best race experiences I've had. And really nice medals! That one's goin in my office! ![]()
I LOVED this race! It was my first half marathon and the atmosphere was ELECTRIC! I am born and raised in the Bluegrass and the event coordinators for the RFB helped bring the uniqueness of Kentucky into this run. I loved the expo, my children had a great time making a poster at the art table. It really helped them feel a part of things. Don't change a thing next year!
The course was hilly but the miles seemed to pass quickly. I had a good time and enjoyed the race. The medals are beautiful and I love the race shirts. On the down side, my personalized bid had another racers' name printed on it and I didn't like that the spectators were allowed in the finishing area (it made finding the refreshments difficult). Over all, a good race and a beautiful course.
This race was AWESOME!! This is my 4th half and BY FAR the Best!! The course was challenging but worth it, and don't count it out if you feel like you are not up for the hills. I did zero hill training and still rocked it on adrenaline. I typically can't run without music, but ended up turning off my ipod for most of the race and just cruised the whole way. It's awesome. Just do it, you will not be disappointed. The crowd participation and volunteers were great, the aid stations could not have been better. The bands/music that were stationed along the route were perfect. Seriously. A crazy marching band at mile 12ish was the perfect pick-me-up to keep me strong that last mile. I usually don't really get into expos, but even the expo was great. And I'm usually a one-and-done kinda girl when it comes to half marathons, but I'll be returning to this one for years to come.
The race director definitely took advantage of Faceboook and kept participants updated to draw up excitements. The volunteers and runners were super friendly. Everyone was so pleasant to talk to and even to run with! Challenge course, I thought the hills would never end. I wish there was a clock showing the time on the finish line. Overall, I had a blast! The weather was perfect. The scenery was pictureristic. A race memory to treasure for a long long time.
Thankfully I did one of the practice runs for the course and was thankful they offered the practice runs. I agree its one of the most beautiful corses but I think they should add one of the most hilliest half's as well! Great up to date info provided on facebook, expo was just ok. Although clif bars were offered on the course some how I never saw them! Overall a great experience and will more than likely do it again next year!
Nice race, very challenging, but we knew what to expect. Not very good organization at the start, No banner stating where the line was, no way to determine where to start based on your own times. Additionally, very poor placement of the porta potties. Quite a distance from the start, and never saw them from the finish line. You know when you enter one at 10 minutes before the race and the toilet paper still hasnt been used (and it's still clean) that no one could find them!!
Great one......Looking forward to the next one
