Per a "blurb" out of Williamsport--After many years of hard work by some local Ausssies in getting LL baseball up and going "Down Under" ----for the first time a LL team from Australia will be entered into the 2013 LLWS. Thanks to the efforts of Ausssie Glen Long/Dodgers 44------and many others in getting Little League baseball started in a country where other sports have been historically prefered since day/one.
Some realignment of regions facilitating their entry.
Frank!
Probably a few hundred more than me to thank FRANK !
The ABF http://www.baseball.com.au/ has worked very hard in conjunction with Little League International to make this happen, Great for growing baseball downunder and great for LL International.
FRANK , LOU and anyone else interested:
From this Link will be our Brisbane Bandits ABL Home games if you get bored during Winter and want to watch Baseball downunder.
Tune in and say hello to me during the games, email link, Twitter, Facebook Link will be on screen and I will give you guys a huge shout out !.
21-23 September we will be LIVE at that link Broadcasting the Aussie State of Queensland U14 Titles, week after U16, then U18.
The U18s will be decent quality and some of the kids playing have already signed PRO contracts in the Minors.
Thanks for the response and info Glen. ![]()
I knew there had to be others who were very much involved in getting LL baseball up and going downunder, but only your name known to me. You all have come a long way re LL baseball since day-one five years ago.
Then there is the "re-start" of the "Australian Baseball League" come November 2012--in conjunction with USA MLB. A virtual "showcase" of potential candidates for USA MLB.
As for some Aussie kids having signed PRO contracts in the Minors; as you no doubt know; Aussie players rostered in the USA Majors has been ongoing since 1884 with Joe Quinn being the first; and currently, among others, Grant Balfour, a relief pitcher pitching very well for the Oakland A's. He Just helped, in relief, beating my Red Sox. But then, my Red Sox going through a very rough year, hopefully things will turn around for the better in upcoming years.
At my age, hope I'm still around when when they are back in contention. Meantime, "no joy in Mudville"!
