Listen to Music While Running?

I don't, and don't think I'd like to cause I'm distracted easily and would get hit by a car or something. But I like "singing" either out loud or in my head, or humming while I run. I talk to myself too, or make up stories. Anyone else do that? And/or what do you like to listen to when you run? why?
When I am home for breaks I run with music, I live in a fairly safe neighborhood, not that anything bad couldnt happen, I just think I will be safe listening to music. Then when I am at school whether I run with the team or alone I don't listen to music.
When I do listen to music I usualy have metal or some from of hard rock. I like the fast beats and double bass so it is easy to listen to. I dont really have any reason but I just like to listen to music.

Use the little hook-over kind. Or, if you have the little kind that go in your ear (and you don't mind looking peculiar) tape 'em in. I recommend painter's tape, because it stays on good and doesn't hurt to take off. I did it once, but it was just for fun. It was a two miler, so I don't really know how it stands up to longer stuff.
Music is for joggers
I love running to music, whether it's in headphones or in my head. It helps regulate my breathing, and keeps my mind off my muscles.

If you like to run to music, check out my Podrunner podcasts--fixed-beat, nonstop mixes of electronic dance music. There are 11 currently online. You can look on iTunes or go to my website at http://www.djsteveboy.com/mixes.html[/URL" target="_blank"> . There's also an exclusive weekly mix on http://www.fitpod.com[/URL" target="_blank"> - all geared toward runners, and all free.
You know, it's funny to me how arrogant some people can be when it comes to NOT listening to music when they run. I met a guy just the other day who said "no serious runners listen to music when running."
Whatever. I'll keep listening... Oh, and I'm faster than him too...
I've heard that line too about "no serious runner" and music and I say, WHO CARES? I love it. Running, spinning, even walking and working outside. There are TONS of good playlists and a couple of most excellent Podrunner mixes for FREE download at www.fitpod.com.[/URL" target="_blank"> Go get 'em and nevermind the naysayers, I says.
if i listen to music is definitly techo/persian music. its very upbeat and keeps me running but that only when i run alone
If running very hard I think music throws you off... But if you're doing Long Slow Distance trying to raise your mpw then I guess its a pretty good idea.
i almost always run with music but the last couple races i ran, either my batteries died half way through(cd player) or one my daughter lent me her ipod but i couldn't figure it out(tough being outdated!)it wasn't the end if the world and i ran surprising well.i've always said my fast music was my motivation to run fast.i find it amusing that people don't think you're a serious runner running with music.i totally enjoy it and it isn't so loud that i worry about safety issues.i figure whatever works for you! !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!

I would, but I have the same problem as TweetyPie. Stupid little headphones. I will sing outloud every once in awhile. My friends and I sing outloud together sometimes and that's pretty fun. But if I'm doing a really hard run, I usually just focus on running. I usually listen to music while I'm pole vaulting in track season though.

Music during a pole vault... that WOULD be interesting.

In that case, at least half the runners I saw at the Jersey Shore Marathon and Half-Marathon were compensated spokespersons for the Apple iPod !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|border=0!.
