Listen to Music While Running?

I don't, and don't think I'd like to cause I'm distracted easily and would get hit by a car or something. But I like "singing" either out loud or in my head, or humming while I run. I talk to myself too, or make up stories. Anyone else do that? And/or what do you like to listen to when you run? why?

Re: Listen to Music While Running?

When I am home for breaks I run with music, I live in a fairly safe neighborhood, not that anything bad couldnt happen, I just think I will be safe listening to music. Then when I am at school whether I run with the team or alone I don't listen to music.

When I do listen to music I usualy have metal or some from of hard rock. I like the fast beats and double bass so it is easy to listen to. I dont really have any reason but I just like to listen to music.

Re: Listen to Music While Running?

I love running to music, whether it's in headphones or in my head. It helps regulate my breathing, and keeps my mind off my muscles.

Re: Listen to Music While Running?

You know, it's funny to me how arrogant some people can be when it comes to NOT listening to music when they run. I met a guy just the other day who said "no serious runners listen to music when running."

Whatever. I'll keep listening... Oh, and I'm faster than him too...

Re: Listen to Music While Running?

I've heard that line too about "no serious runner" and music and I say, WHO CARES? I love it. Running, spinning, even walking and working outside. There are TONS of good playlists and a couple of most excellent Podrunner mixes for FREE download at www.fitpod.com.[/URL" target="_blank"> Go get 'em and nevermind the naysayers, I says.

Re: Listen to Music While Running?

If running very hard I think music throws you off... But if you're doing Long Slow Distance trying to raise your mpw then I guess its a pretty good idea.

Re: Listen to Music While Running?

i almost always run with music but the last couple races i ran, either my batteries died half way through(cd player) or one my daughter lent me her ipod but i couldn't figure it out(tough being outdated!)it wasn't the end if the world and i ran surprising well.i've always said my fast music was my motivation to run fast.i find it amusing that people don't think you're a serious runner running with music.i totally enjoy it and it isn't so loud that i worry about safety issues.i figure whatever works for you! !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/smile.gif|border=0!

Re: Listen to Music While Running?

I would, but I have the same problem as TweetyPie. Stupid little headphones. I will sing outloud every once in awhile. My friends and I sing outloud together sometimes and that's pretty fun. But if I'm doing a really hard run, I usually just focus on running. I usually listen to music while I'm pole vaulting in track season though.
