How long until you started enjoying running?

I have an ungoing debate with some friends-- my contention is that no one enjoys running when they first start.... but they enjoy it eventually.

When did you start enjoying running?

Re: How long until you started enjoying running?
I think I started enjoying it after mys econd year of HS XC. I actually got well below 20 for the 5k and my coach reaized I had some potential. That winter I actually trained for track a bit and this summer started actually running consistently. Running is just normal now, I don't dread it anymore. Though sometimes when us teenagers go through our little new crazes running seems to get put on the sidelines. I would say I definitely enjoy running now though.

Re: How long until you started enjoying running?
I actually did enjoy it when I first started (and still do - I'm definitely still a newbie!). Otherwise I probably wouldn't have kept at it. I loved the solitude of being out in the early morning, the fresh air, the heightened senses, and the feeling of accomplishment that I got when I was done.

I think the key was that I went very, very slowly. Also, C25k made it surprisingly doable.

same here. I've always been active though, especially playing baasketball so it's just a change of activities more than anything else. it is different though, and the more I run the more I enjoy it.

Re: How long until you started enjoying running?
I've always enjoyed walking, then a couple years ago I decided to walk a half marathon. Then I decided to run part of it. Then, what the heck--why not run all of it??? Yah, I had sore tired legs. But, the sense of accomplishement as I was able to run further each time was well worth it!

Don't get me wrong--there are some runs that I don't enjoy. Really hard track workouts are not my favorite! But, the sense of accomplishment afterwards is worth it! And there are some runs that I crash and burn...

But, in the end, running is something that I have enjoyed from the begining.

Re: How long until you started enjoying running?
It took me about 8 weeks before I really enjoyed running. Up until that point, I was dying and had to struggle with every step. I had to hang in there and be patient. After that, I couldn't get enough of running and now I run 3 - 4x a week routinely.

It took me 8 years before I actually stated to like running. If it hadn't been for the juggling, I would've quit years ago. Now, I think of myself as a runner and I love it.

It took me a couple of months before I enjoyed running. My son on the other hand has enjoyed running since he could, he runs with the biggest grin on his face.

Re: How long until you started enjoying running?
It was a struggle at first. Felt awkward. Kept at it for about 5 mos. when something very amazing happened.

Went out for a 2-3 mile run around the neighborhood and spotted a High School, so I decide to jog over to see if I could run a few laps. It was at night, the lights were on and the H.S.foot ball team was practicing in the middle of the field. There were a few people in the stand watching the practice.

As I started doing a lap (having run about 2 miles) I felt this euphoric (sp) sensation wash over me and felt, for the first time since I began running, like I could run for-ev-er!

I don't remember how many laps I ran that night but the memory of that feeling I will never ever forget.

Re: How long until you started enjoying running?
I absolutely loved my first running class. But when I went out alone, it wasn't as much fun. I love running more when I'm with others, and find I struggle to really love it when I'm alone. Running is a wacky thing. But I just can't imagine giving it up.
Guess I really didn't answer your question.

Re: How long until you started enjoying running?
when i was in elementary school & we had our 600 yd run portion of the physical fitness test. i liked it. i wanted to go longer. in jr high i competed in my first race, a 2 1/4 mile xc jaunt. i loved it. i've always gravitated toward solo type activities, running is that. i run alone, but occasionally i'll run with a teammate. i race, more because i feel i need to than love to. i've been injured & unable to run ... the training by myself is what i miss. the meditation, the thoughts that stream through my head, the animals i see, the feeling of propelling myself forward under my own power beholden to no one, the liberty of flight ... i love to run.

Re: How long until you started enjoying running?
I would have to say when I ran the 20 min on the C25K program and made it without stopping, without dying, and without collapsing. That was a huge accomplishment and at that point I knew I could keep building upon that and enjoy running.
