running mantras? or what phrase do you repeat to keep you running?

"This is totally do-able!" then I growl really fierce. It helps to make THE FACE also. I also tend to use this phrase in daily life as well. It actually got me through school...more the growling than anything else.

Marathon Mantra:
It is mile 21-22 and the race is starting to unfold. To this point in the race you've given everything. Now it really begins to happen. Fatigue sets in. The miles are coming to an end, but you are really starting to feel it. "Fight it." "Keep pushing." I used these phrases on several occasions in 2006 when I ran 12 marathons and some on back2back weekends.I Love the Marathon[/URL" target="_blank">

Mine is "who do you want to be?" It always reminds of what could have been still over 400 pounds, and what my alternative could be. The old guy would have stopped, but hopefully this new guy keeps pushing even when it gets tough or the legs are sore.

I begin most of my runs with a prayer for safety, family, etc.

I end most of my runs thinking about something I saw on a race t-shirt. "Pain is nothing compared to what it feels like to quit."

It's a little cliche, but isn't everything?

crunningman. LOVE IT. I am sure this will be used.

I use several depending on the mood. My big one is
"I am because I run, I run because I am".

Re: running mantras? or what phrase do you repeat to keep you running?
I hope I dont offend anyone by bringing spirituality into the mix here, but I believe in using what works-for me, and especially during the last 6 miles of a marathon(Ive completed 7 since May 05) or few miles of a very long run, I use that time-tested line from Phil 4:13("I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me")...additionally, I have heard of the mantra being used by others regardless of belief systems.....again, its whatever works.........

"I can do this, don't give up, if running was so easy, everyone would be doing it. A shower will feel great once I'm finished. Almost home . . ., repeat."
