What Is Your Dream Goal Time?

I think far too often we sell ourseleves short. We listen to what others say is possible for us. We here the word 'No' and accept it as fact. We are told we are not good enough, not fast enough, that we should quit. What is a time you dream about running? A time you believe you are capable of but know it will take a miracle to perform. I can tell you people, BELIEVE in them.

Mine is to run 2.15.00 for the marathon. I am 36 and my best is 2.19.35. Plan B is a 2.18.00

What is YOUR dream goal? What are you doing to achieve it?

I am 52 and if I can/could run a perfect marathon I think it would be 3:27 PR is 3;31.

What Is Your Dream Goal Time?

I have yet to run my first marathon, but if I could pick a dream time it would be just under the 3 hour mark. But when I run my first one, I plan on running for fun and seeing what the numbers comes. From there, I'll make some plans!

Re: What Is Your Dream Goal Time?

My dream goal is to break 24 min for the 5K at least once more. I've raced over 200 5Ks and 10Ks during the past 26 yrs, and although I'd come close many times, the barrier remained. So I started taking hill work a little more seriously, and pushing a bit more on tempo runs and fartlek. I was concerned that it would take some serious track speedwork to break 24 min, and I didn't really have the incentive to do that. But then I went out and raced the Glendale Downtown Dash (5K) last March. This was my 4th time for this race, I knew the course, and with the exception of two hairpin turns, it's flat and pretty fast. To make a long story short, I ran 23:47 and it was major party time. I have not broken 24 min again since then, but would sure like to!

With my head in the clouds, I'd like to run a marathon in 4:10 and qualify for Boston. But since the 5K and 10K are my best distances, and I've done one marathon in my life (and that was 4:43, in 2009), I don't think that will materialize any time soon, even if I do another marathon.

What Is Your Dream Goal Time?

I will be 54 at the end of February 2013. I started jogging a year ago, after a sedentary lifetime, using the C25K program.

    Completed 5 timed 5k's last year 31:44, 29:11, 28:40, 27:17 (i think the course was short), and 27:05.

My goal is to "run my birth year" of 19:59 in a 5K in my lifetime.

Ihave no Plan B, it would just distract me from Plan A. Might be a delusional goal, but many achivers were considered to be crazy......

My next step on the ladder is to clock a 26:30 or better this month.

I'd love to run a 3:40 marathon (currently 4:34:51) and sub 20 minute 5k (currently 21:39). If I keep working and training hard I'm sure I'll get there.

What Is Your Dream Goal Time?

5K in under 20 minutes.  Quit smoking 18 months ago after smoking for 30 years.  I currently run 15 to 20 miles per week along with doing some weight training.  I ran my first 5k three months after I quit smoking and finished in 26:59.  One year later, in the same race, I ran 22:11.  That was my last race, and I'm now training all indoors due to the winter weather.  If anyone has any suggestions to help me get to 20 minutes, I'm all ears.  I am planning to start some interval training pretty soon.  Currently, I try to run a couple of fast days where I just run 5k, and then I run about three days at a slower pace.  I have been able to run 5 miles at 40 minutes just running at a solid pace.  On my easy days though, I will just run 5 miles in around 47 minutes.

That kind of improvement is not unusual, but it will get incrementally more difficult.  I would suggest increasing your weekly mileage (slowly) to 25 - 30, with an 8 to 10 mile long run.  Then your plan of a weekly interval workout is a good one.  Later, you could add a 2 or 3 mile tempo run every couple weeks, at a pace a little slower than your 5K pace.  These are all fairly basic things and a good coach could refine your plan.

What Is Your Dream Goal Time?

    My dream goals:

    1) Probably easiest one, 5K in under 20 min. So far 20:12 so I am almost there. I believe if I started training seriously for this it should not be too difficult to get.

    2) 10k in under 40 min. So far best time is 44:30 but i have not run any "flat" 10 k in quite some time.

    3) HM in less than 1:30.  Current PB is 1:35:27 so there is still a while to go. Although maybe not so much as for the 10k goal.

Next steps: first, beat 1:35 in the HM, then run a nice, flat, 10k and hopefully get somewhere around 42 minutes. Then maybe go for the 5k or keep on at the HM time.

Something no one has mentioned so far is... what will you do once you reach your dream goal time?

    Current PB:

    5k: 20:12 (December 31st 2012)

    10k : 42:30 (March 9th 2014)

    Half Marathon: 1:35:27 (February 3rd 2013)

I like half marathons! Nine completed so far and on PB shape. One to go!. Then it's marathon time.

If I break 24 min for any 5K this year, will probably do a happy dance as soon as I cross the finish line and get through the chute. LOL.

We're almost identicle! But I just quit smoking 15 days ago after starting again after quitting for nearly two years. Back then, my first 5K was around 26. After that summer, I managed to get to 20:20..........I soon started smoking again after that. SO, I'm back running, not smoking and I WILL get a sub 20 5K!! Good luck to you!!
