To Be(Fair) or Not To Be (Fair)

The Little League in our city had 43 signups for Juniors Division. The Board was adamant about only having two teams of 13 players, have tryouts, and tell those who didn’t make a team “sorry no baseball for you this season”. There were volunteers willing to manage/coach a third team but to no avail. When the draft occurred and parents got wind that their child might not be playing complaints began. After the draft and two teams, A and B, were selected, the Board gave in and allowed an adult to have the remaining 17 players for team C. The newest manager wanted to thin down his roster and explained to the Board that 17 players on his team and 13 players on the other two were at a disadvantage. The Board agreed but would only allow him to protect 4 players on team C and permit Teams A and B to select a player each from Team C.     Can anyone tell me, how many things are wrong with this scenario? I believe it should have been a total redraft or allow Team C manager to choose which players were to be put on Team A and B.     Please give me some input for future reference…

What your league did was NOT in accordance with any LL qpproved Plqaer Selection/Draft Plan.

Someone needs to coplain to the DA/Region ASAP.

You need to do a total re-draft and it needs to be done soon, not after the teams have practiced for a week or two!

Someone in your league (preferably your President and Player Agent) needs to look at the LL Operating Manual!!!

C.T.  Not only is Lou right on with the O.M., but your league officers might also benefit from reading the rulebook section dealing with rosters in all divisions having to carry the same number of players. Reg: III(a).

And also rulebook Reg: IV, page 32 & 33 dealing with league ages and/or swing ages applicable to the Junior Division.
