Question on Layupsus

I am in need of advice on helping my 9yr old son with layups. He is right handed and he jumps off the wrong foot when attempting right handed layups. He makes most of them and he led his team in scoring, so instead of trying to correct it during the season, I waited till the off season to try to help him jump off the right foot. He has a coach working with him too, and he still can't seem to jump off  the right foot without traveling or missing the layup. His coach is also teaching him to use his left hand, and he jumps off the correct foot using his left hand. My question is how big a deal is this right now? Did anyone alse have this problem growing up? will  he get this or maybe he's better off two feet from the right side? Should I leave it alone? Any advice would be appreciated.

    Question on Layupsus

    Hey bballdad,

This is a common problem. Try this:

    1) Position yourself in the middle of the paint (a bit to the right) with the ball in your hand

    2) Your son is by your side facing the basket

    3) Your son grabs the ball from your hand while making a big first step with his right foot (Make sure he goes really slow). He'll probably need about 10 minutes to get it right!

    4) Your son takes the second step with his left, jumps, and make the layup.

    I hope this helps.
