Reverse Dieting to Break Plateaus

Los Angeles, CA – 3/3/2014

Metabolismis something that can vary from person to person, but it’s an important part ofweight loss and control.  If strugglingwith plateaus after a period of success, one may be searching for a way to revup their diet plan in order to get back on track.  Reverse dieting may be one way to do that.

Reversedieting can help restore metabolism back to a pre-weight loss level so we havemore of a “base” to cut calories from. If we start weight loss from cutting from 2500 calories per day, we havea lot more room to work with than if we start off cutting from only 1800calories per day.  The body needscalories to function, and reducing too much can lead to plateaus or even weightgain.

In orderto reverse diet, we need to start adding calories back into our dailyconsumption.  An increase of 5 percentper week should give a person a good place to start, though the thought ofadding in calories when trying to lose weight is enough to make a personcringe.  If they’re already strugglingwith losing weight, why would they want to eat more?

With anincrease in calories, motivation and energy return and workouts become funagain.  Many experience a decrease inhunger, and the feeling of “restriction” that comes from extreme caloriecutting begins to fade.  Surprisinglyenough, this is when many find a break in their plateau and begin losing weightagain.

The bodyneeds calories to function and perform at optimum levels.  And while a reduction in calories isnecessary to lose weight, too much of a reduction can cause the body to shiftinto a “starvation” mode.  This can notonly result in a plateau, but also a loss of energy and mental focus and it canlead to other health issues.

Trueweight loss success comes from finding a way to steadily decrease unhealthycalorie intake while increasing activity. Once this balance has been achieved, the body will adjust and soonenough the pounds will fall off and muscle will increase.
