Tips to Begin a Workout Regimen

We allstart out as beginners and eventually work up to better fitness levels. Though,after a hiatus from a workout for whatever reason, it’s easier to feel like a beginneragain.  If a person is starting over, orjust starting out, here are some steps to take when beginning a fitnessprogram.


Whenchoosing a workout, we should choose one that’s low impact and easy toperform.  Cycling or walking areexcellent choices for beginners as they are low impact and don’t require a lotof skill.  Another good choice is wateraerobics, or using the elliptical machines in cardio rooms at the gym.  For the first few days, stick to these itemsand then begin to increase the workout.


A goodpace to start at for the first few weeks is 10-20 minute cardio sessions thatslowly build up to four to five 30 minute sessions per week.  Once this cardio goal is met, intensity ofworkouts can be increased to push the body, and a person can add in weighttraining exercises for increased physical benefit. 


Byincreasing intensity, a person will meet the American College of SportsMedicine exercise guidelines in no time and can begin altering diet habits inorder to lose weight and increase muscular tone.  Becoming active over this elongated pace alsoputs less pressure on the heart and other organs by allowing for gradualadjustment of activity.  This can alsohelp improve health by reducing other diseases and enhancing a general feelingof mental and physical well-being.


Asalways, be sure to consult a healthcare provider before beginning any workoutregimen, especially if a person is coming off of a long hiatus or has healthissues they need to monitor.  Butfollowing a slow and steady pace will make it more likely a person will stickto a workout regimen, and see results over time.
