Any lightweight runners wearing MAX cushioned shoes

About me: Training for this years NYC marathon, max run so far 9 miles. 6'2" 155lbs. Not fast, did a recent 10k at 9min pace.

I was under the assumption that really cushioned shoes were for heavy runners.  I run in Kinvara 3's but after my last run I was sore in my joints and a whole lot of areas.  Then I saw this guy I follow online, Durianrider, run a marathon with almost no training (he cycles a ton) in the Altra Olympus.  He's like 140lbs. I'm skeptical but some of it does make sense: More cushioning, less stressful impacts, right?  Do they really decrease soreness, joint pain, etc.?  Please don't post unless you actually have worn something like a HOKA or Altra Olympus.  I don't care about philosophical debates regarding barefoot running versus normal shoes.
