escape from alcatraz

HAs anybody else signed up for the Escape From Alcatraz Lottery? I did, it is like 320.00 which is ridiculous for a race that length but I have always wanted to do that race, I hear it is worth the $$$

Hobey is in, I'm sure she'll chime in shortly. Have you searched youtube for videos of the race? Tons of good stuff. Looks like a terrific race, I've heard good things about it.

Re: escape from alcatraz
No lottery for me since I qualified at my last race last year. I'm just waiting for the registration info they send to qualifiers for signing up.

Spendy but it is one of those one of a kind races. I've already booked a hotel room and BrewDad and I are planning a few days in Napa/Sonoma afterwards. Hope to see you there.

Sigh... my former coach did this one last year. Did really well, too. A couple weeks later, he was hit by a car and broke both arms and pelvis. He's up to running 35mins now... Brutal, brutal race, but he loved it.

This guys got some great video's posted of the race on his blog site. He just posted one of Jon Blais too....not sure if you've heard of him but pretty inspirational guy. I'm sure it's on you tube too.

Re: escape from alcatraz
I saw your post and have always been really interested in this race. I visited Alcatraz as a tourist when I was up in San Fran this summer and it's such a cool place. It must be an awesome event. I saved a couple videos on my YouTube page that I liked about the race so I posted them below.

This one starts off with a little history and some movie scenes then follows this guy Billy through the event:

This one shows a lot of the course with some good tunes:
