Re: Half Marathon trainers Nov 4th

Hiya!  I'm still here.  Chuck, I'm very glad you found a good home for your dogs!  Been lurking some on this thread, and it's good to see that there are some newcomers.  I'm still on injured reserve, but the hip flexor/tendon is doing much better.  Went to the doctor last week and he said another 3 weeks off running, but I can do some low impact + range of motion/strengthening stuff.  So I've been ellipticalling, doing core work, and lifting weights.  Also aired up the tires on my bike yesterday and rode to/from the gym.  Date to start easing back into running is 11/21, not that I'm counting!

So who has halfs coming up? Joe, isn't yours really soon?

Re: Half Marathon trainers Nov 4th

I am guessing I missed a post last week dealing with panties...bummer.  But Chuck, even if they are mens shorts are they still referred to as "panties"?  Guess I better go back and read what I missed.
I ran my first 6 miler in my running tights (without panties!) this morning and it was wonderful!
I did look up that at least here in New England, the marathon is being televised on NBC at 3pm this afternoon.
Did anyone else see that Nova special on the nonrunners training for the Boston Marathon on the 30th? I thought it was very interesting.
Sorry I have been MIA lately...just so busy at work! Hope everyone is doing great and injury free!
Alex

Never mind - I went back and reread the few pages I missed from last weeks topics.  You guys are too funny.
Oh and CTmama - did you ever finally get a pair of shoes to work for you?

Below is

Monnik's

post (originally posted on last week's thread)...
Gotta run (not really) so no time for shoutouts...

Hey everyone! It's Sunday morning and I had an icky day yesterday.

I started out ok, ate a nice healthy bowl of oatmeal and coffee for breakfast, I putzed around the house for a while, and then got ready for my long run. I hopped on that TM and knew from the start that it wasn't going to be a good run. My ankle was bugging me and that stupid hip twinge that I've been a bit worried about came back. But most of all, my legs were just really heavy and didn't want to run... I only got 1.9 miles in.

I'm going to rest them today - do a 3 mile walk, but no running, and get back to my schedule tomorrow. I'm irritated with myself for being lazy on Wednesday, because since I made up my Wed. run on Friday, I think three days in a row wasn't great for my legs or hip. I'm just not quite ready for 3 days in a row I guess.

Laurel, I'm not sure what the answers to your questions are, but based on my experience, I've decided to make sure to have a rest day before my long runs from now on. I think if stamina becomes an issue, if you can finish the run even while taking walking breaks, then that seems like the best thing (in my opinion).

Jules, i'm so glad to find another person who loves the TM too! I still try to get outside once a week so that I can run with my daughter and so I can continue to train a bit on pavement.

Chuck - what kind of car? Are you getting a convertible? I am so jealous! My 4 year old daughter keeps begging me to buy 'one of those cool cars with no ceilings'... But in Iowa, they're not very practical... Sorry about the puppies... !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/frown.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/frown.gif|border=0!

Peg, you feeling better today? Hope today's a good one for you.

Wbertha, where do you live? You got to run a 1/2 in Green Bay and you're a Pack fan, so are you in the midwest?

Joe, how was your six miles?

Cara, did you enjoy the movie with your husband?

Well, My kids are begging for breakfast. How dare they want to be fed? I should get going.

Okay, got more time than I thought...   !http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|src=http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/biggrin.gif|border=0!

Chuck43 - Go drive!

Carol40 - Sorry you're still sidelined... Cowboys play tonight! Yes, my HM in San Antonio is next Sunday!

Alex - Woohoo! Another one commando in running tights! So where's your pic! lol The panties thing was started cause Peg had said before that she couldn't find running shorts with liner. Then when she said she had gotton running shorts from a running store I asked about them. My running shorts have "a liner", not sure what Chuck wears! LOL
Yep, I saw that special on PBS last week too.

Monnik - Yes, my 6 went well. Resting today and then two short runs during the week before my HM next Sunday!

Peg - Yoohoo! Here we are!!

Re: Half Marathon trainers Nov 4th

I deleted the other thread.  That is funny.

Chuck - don't be scaring the church ladies now.

My running shorts have a liner. I really like it that way.

Alex - way to go on commando. I saw the show as well. I got emotional at the end. It was a great show.

Carol - keep it up girl, you will get there.

We are cooking a bunch of food and going down to the neighbors to watch all the games. Due to no cable at my house. ; )

Re: Half Marathon trainers Nov 4th

Peg, sounds like a party!  Going to the sports bar myself later...  They should have both the Texans and Colts games on!

Moving

Laurel's

post below to this week...

OK - so I have my right knee wrapped today for support - no real "pain" - just soreness & feels a bit unstable...so, thankfully today is rest day - planning to rest again tomorrow - then hopefully run again Tuesday a.m.

Hope everybody else has a better start to the running week!

Laurel
