Re: Half Marathon trainers Nov 4th

Welcome to Hopper, Misswendy and Freerunner.

monnik, I really cannot answer your question about using free weights. Last year, the first year I really did any significant amount of upper body weights ( I was lifting consistently 2 or 3 times per week during the winter weather), I had to have my DD join me at the gym for instructions. So I am definitely a novice. Did my first lifting of the season on Wednesday and muscles seem a bit sore today.

hopper31, if you are concerned about the times of the runners in your up coming half marathon, you can probably locate the finish times from last year. This will give you an idea of the race times. Some races seem to attached more serious runners and few snails like myself, were as other races seem to be very walker friendly and of course the times are then slower.

Rest day for me today but I had to pop in to say: GOOD LUCK, JOE!!! HAVE FUN...SEND PICS.

Re: Half Marathon trainers Nov 4th

I have a 4 mile scheduled in the am- was supposed to be today but my daughter showed up early- have been putting insulation in all day so I will be lazy this evening!

Welcome all new ones- I think even with all the new people that are posting saying they are beginners , I am still way behind ya'll, my longest is 4 1/2. I should be farther in my training, but am going back a few weeks because of the back injury. I think it is all healed now- not bothering me even with going back to running short 2- 2 1/2 runs. Hopefully I will be saying the same after tomorrows!

Monnik - I hope your hip heals soon- I wouldn't push it if it hurts- have it looked at! Good Luck!

Joe- Good Luck!!! You'll do great! Looking forward to the race report.

Re: Half Marathon trainers Nov 4th

Good evening halfers, our little group is growing all the time. 5 miles yesterday. I tried a new meal before running. Peanut butter and honey sandwich. I remember one of my high school friends drinking honey before his long runs. I certainly had plenty of energy during my run. Rest day for me today, 8 miles in the morning.

I think for Thanksgiving we are going to grandma’s house. I am going to have DW drop me off about 8 miles out of town and run in from there. Although, my family should call the holiday “football giving.”

Hopper- Welcome! I posted a message on your other thread about asthma. Sounded like most of the others that posted there just think asthma is in the head. I was really frustrated reading them. But, I see the attitude toward asthma on a regular basis.

Misswendy- welcome! Sounds like your training is going well.

Freerunner- are you going to run the 3M half in Jan.? If so, you would make 3 total form this group.

Laurel- hope your run goes well.

Monnik- sounds like a good recovery plan. We need to get everyone up and going again!

Chuck- sounds like a nice trip for the holidays. Good running.

I am off to bed. Good runs/rests to all.

Stan

Chuck, I don't have asthma but my wife and son both have a severe case. I am a certified asthma educator, one of the many hats that I wear as a respiratory care educator.

Hello.  How is everyone?  Welcome new folks!  We sure are growing.

I am still not running. Hopefully soon these shins will be better.

Doing little projects around the house. Fun fun.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Hey Everyone!

Joe - have a great time in San Antonio! Can't wait to hear about it.

I did a really easy, super slow 4 miles today. Hip feels pretty good! I'm hopeful that slow, easy runs followed by a day of rest will get this old hip back to good.

In-laws are in town today. And I might be getting a new car. Fun times.

Happy Weekend!!

Re: Half Marathon trainers Nov 4th

hows everyone
cant wait to see pictures of the race, joe. good luck.
10 miles this am on a national forest trail. loads of fun...slow going, though due to spider webs and horseshoe ruts. the first 6 miles were 10 min each, but slowed down later. of course, could be due to the camping night before, or the hotdogs and refreshing beverages consumed therewith....hmmmm
i wish i had advice for yall about weights, hips, asthma, etc, but i am new to sports in general. but i do say that i am much happier now that i am getting into shape!!!
love to yall

Re: Half Marathon trainers Nov 4th

Good Luck Joe!!!  Have a blast - can't wait to read your report.
We had a little health club open near us today (.5 miles away) so dh and I joined. I am not liking running in the 40's and wind and it is only going to get worse here.. I hope to do one weekly run outside just so I don't go nutso on the dreadmills!
Kevin - I am planning on doing the Green Bay half also. I am slow so it will be nice doing a half that has a longer time limit.

Re: Half Marathon trainers Nov 4th

Chuck, hope you're feeling better.

For those of you doing the Green Bay half marathon next May, my prediction is you are going to love it.

Did my LSD today and it sure was slow. Temperature was only 35 when I started and 47 by the time I finished. Plus it was windy and cloudy. Not exactly great running weather but it was better than the treadmill. Got my 9 miles in.

Kind of down in the dumps today. Hubby casually announced last night over dinner that we can't make a half marathon in Florida in Feb. due to his work schedule. Could have let me know three weeks ago before I started training for it. Glad I haven't made any reservations or paid for my race entry yet. This may have been the reason my run today was not so good.

Not sure how to run now as I don't have any race to look forward to to train for or to motivate me.
