Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Good morning all,

Has everyone go their half marathon picked?

What has been your longest run to date?

I will run later tonight as I really am enjoying the Christmas lights and the moon is bright.

Take care and good runs today....?

25 glorious pain free mins in the stationary bike between levels 8 and 11 - who could ever imagine that would be cause for celebration !

I can already tell from the HR and quad soreness that getting back to my previous running level is going to be long and painful - at some point I`m going to post the sequence of events that lead to this so otheres can avaoid following me down the same path !

lots of weights + resistance bands yesterday

hand bike stationary bike and abs today ...Joe I have no idea why anyone would opt for the hand bike !!! did you enjoy it  ??? I hatre it .. HATE IT

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Hey - rainy, windy and cold here (of course "cold" to us here in South Texas is most likely "warm" to some of the rest of you!) - it's in the 40s...JOE - yes, I did brave the weather - I don't have a TM & I'm not member of a gym!  I only passed about 4-5 other people running in the neighborhood - one of them gave me a "thumbs up" when I passed him!  Crazy!

I ran the 7.8 loop - actually ran 7M & walked/sprinted the last .8M. After a nice warm bath & some peppermint tea, we're getting out the Christmas decorations!

Runjr - I haven't yet committed to a HM - I'm considering a few - perhaps April in Dallas for me...we'll see.

Happy day to all!
Laurel

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Evening Peeps!  Did my 9 miles on the treadmill this morning!!  Ugh!  It was tough!  After the first 60min (treadmill stops), took a 2 minute break, stretched a bit and had some water.  Then back for the 2nd half!

Macd - Missed the Colt's game on Thursday but heard about it.... That wireless router is cool isn't it?

Runjr - My next HM is in January 13th. Ran 9 this morning.

Spicegeek - Great news on that pain free workout! Yep, that hand bike can get boring huh? Actually only reason I tried it was because you spoke of it! lol

Laurel - You braved that weather huh? Good run! Got the place all decorated yet? ;-)

Chuck - Guess you're enjoying the Gators game about now huh?

Peg - Did you run outdoors today?

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

hey yall
on the subject of football, mississippi state won the egg bowl--our annual game against archrival ole miss...YES!!!

did 12 m today. it was cold, but not windy. a flat course, so i did ok on time. 2:11.

DS bday party. lots of work the rest of the day. fun with family.

a hilly run for me is three miles of hills, up and down about 12 times or so. the 10k course that was so hard for me had three or four extremely steep and long hills, and that was very hard. what can i do to get better at hills? i would like to know.

chuck...i am also glad you are taking care of yourself. hope your next test brings good news. hope you like your garmin.

kathywing...thnx for the pic. beautiful. i saw 2 deer this am.

to those who think i am obsessed with brett favre, thongs, or anyother kind of men/underwear: well, idk. it just sounds funny when i post it. hope to make yall laugh. i do think about other things!

and, hey, i didnt know chinese food was naughty

love to all. keep going in the cold and bad weather...

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Hi everyone:

Happy running to all.

Joe: 9 miles on a treadmill is tough - you deserve a lot of credit for sticking with it. I don't envy you having to run on the treadmill but I sure would like to see some of that rain you're getting - we have had so little rain here in so. calif. in the last year or so.

runjr: what's the half you're doing in April? Christmas lights - it's going to be so pretty running through the neighborhood at night soon. I don't put up lights but I enjoy everyone else's.

wendy - 12 miles - almost a half-marathon - that's great and how nice to see deer when you're running.

I rode up to 8500 feet on the Palm Springs Tram today and did a 4.2 mile hilly loop - sure is harder running at 8500 feet above sea level than at 1500 feet above sea level. This afternoon we celebrated Cy's birthday - he turned 70 and still hikes from Palm Springs to the upper tram station on a regular basis (10 miles with 8500 feet elevation gain). He took me up the trail my first time last year.

Laurel:  I forgot to post my longest run to-date - it is 8 miles.  I should have done a 9 mile run this week, but I ended up doing shorter but hillier ones.

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Went to the gym rather early this morning.  Did 2 miles on the treadmill in about 25 minutes which is a decent time for me and then spent 30 minutes with the weight machines.

I was initially hoping to run my next half marathon in February. However, due to DH's work schedule, that will not be possible. So now I am looking at April. Then the Chicago Distance Classic in August and the St. Jude's race in Memphis in December. Plus a few short (2 miles or 5 K's for local charities) races during the year should round out my schedule for next year.

So actually, right now I am not training for a specific half marathon but am using this time to work on weights and speed while trying to keep my long run a part of my weekly routine. Due to holiday commitments this week and last, my long runs have been only 7 miles.

Any suggestions for where to find the best available price on a Garmin 205???

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Misswendy - 12 miles in 2:11 is good!  Well done!  Hmm.... how to get better at hills?  Guess running them!?   Well Cara said Chinese food was naughty, I'd have to agree with all that sodium and saturated fat.  But guess it depends on what you choose!
Make us laugh some more! lol ;-)

Kathy - Good job on that hilly loop! Hmm... I want to be like Cy when I grow up! lol

Wbertha - Nice workout this morning! Keep us posted on your races! Good price on a Garmin 205? Hmm.. I remember I had posted a site a month or so ago. Seems like Carol40 had purchased a 305 for her DH from them. However I think she had trouble with the HRM part. I'll see if I can call up the memory banks.... I got mine (305) from www.heartratemonitorsusa.com[/URL" target="_blank"> about 1 year ago. Maybe someone else who has bought one more recently has a recommendation. Have you tried posting on the Gear Forum??

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Hi all, I hope everyone is doing well.  Low 30's and 20mph winds (didn't feel that windy though) but 9.1 miles tonight (my longest).  I need to pace better as the end was tough.

Joe: You are awesome, 9 miles on the TM.

wbetha: I would bet now is the time to shop for one. Mine is a refurbished one from Garmin.

kathywing: I'm considering a couple. Oshkosh in April or Green Bay in May. I want the earlier one, but the weather could be awful that time of year.

misswendy: fantastic run!!!

Have a great evening all!

Re: Half Marathon Trainers week of Nov.18th

Joe's Cool,
I am new to the blog and am running my first 1/2 in January at Disney. Looking at your stats, my times look almost identical to yours. What do you take for nutrition before, during, and after runs? How soon to the 1/2 will you run 13 miles? On an aside, I cannot be happy about Houston's MLS title, because the team was stolen from San Jose and I was a huge Earthquakes fan. Any info from you and others would go a long way in preparing me for my race.

Thanks

welcome mara40thon!!!

i have not y et completed HM but here is my (less than) 2 cents worth: i dont eat before, unless it is a small amount of pnut butter on wheat bread. drink lots of water. follow the schedule on this or other running training site. just try and see what works for you...???

btw: a friend of mine ran disney and said you have to get up early to make the shuttle to the start line...

hope you have a great time chatting with us! we love it!

good luck on your training. keep posting!!!
